About IRRI

Job Purpose
The National Consultant - Emission Research will provide technical support in greenhouse gas laboratory operations, laboratory capacity building, and research activities of the MAFF-Agri and CoolRice Project by assisting in sample analysis, laboratory management, and gaining practical exposure to ongoing experiments and research implementation.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines, and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct greenhouse gas sample analysis using Gas Chromatography following established SOPs.
- Assist in laboratory preparation, maintenance, inventory management, and quality assurance activities.
- Support routine calibration, troubleshooting, and documentation of laboratory equipment.
- Assist in organizing laboratory records, analytical results, and project documentation.
- Participate in laboratory capacity-building activities, including training on analytical techniques and laboratory best practices.
- Become familiar with ongoing greenhouse gas experiments by learning the basic experimental objectives, treatments, and field activities.
- Assist in coordinating sample schedules and monitoring experiment progress as assigned.
- Perform other duties related to laboratory and research activities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry, Agricultural Science, or another related scientific discipline.
- Experience working in a scientific or analytical laboratory.
- Experience operating or assisting in the operation of laboratory analytical instruments, preferably Gas Chromatography (GC).
- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and laboratory quality management procedures.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory standards is an advantage.
Skills Required
Mandatory
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, sample preparation, and analytical techniques.
- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and laboratory safety protocols.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate laboratory records.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple laboratory tasks and meet project timelines.
Preferred
- Experience operating Gas Chromatography (GC) instruments.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory quality management systems.
- Experience supporting greenhouse gas or environmental research.
- Experience working in agricultural or environmental research laboratories.
