Your role

Purpose of the Traineeship

At EUROCONTROL, we believe in empowering young talents by providing hands-on training experiences that bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice. Our traineeship offers you the chance to apply and enhance your skills in a real-world setting, setting the stage for a successful career in your chosen field.

You will support the evolution of AI-powered tools and knowledge infrastructure for the Enterprise Architecture practice at EUROCONTROL's Network Manager Directorate. Building on an existing Power Apps tool and the team's emerging LLM based knowledge wiki system, you will extend both while exploring agentic AI capabilities applied to architecture governance, knowledge management, and decision support. This is a hands-on engineering learning experience supported by a small expert team.

Main Learning Objectives & Tasks

SAB Governance Power App

  • Contribute to the enhancement of the SAB Governance Canvas App (Power Apps and SharePoint).
  • Explore and help introduce new features based on stakeholder feedback, including workflow tracking, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Assist with application testing, documentation, and Power BI integration.

LLM Knowledge Infrastructure

  • Help expand and maintain LLM-ready knowledge repositories covering Enterprise Architecture domains.
  • Explore knowledge structuring techniques for AI applications, including RAG, semantic organisation, and content chunking.
  • Assist in documenting knowledge management practices and quality checks.

Agentic AI Exploration

  • Participate in AI proof-of-concept activities for Enterprise Architecture use cases.
  • Experiment with AI-assisted approaches for document analysis, architecture reviews, and requirements summarisation.
  • Gain hands-on experience with LLMs, prompting techniques, context management,and AI tool integration.
  • Explore methods for assessing AI agent effectiveness in document-centric environments.

EA Tooling and Automation

  • Contribute to the evolution of tooling supporting the Orbus Infinity Enterprise Architecture repository.
  • Assist with automation initiatives for recurring team activities, reporting, and data quality checks.
  • Collaborate on integrations between Enterprise Architecture, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and AI solutions.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing activities and the maintenance of team documentation.

Desired Duration

The traineeship runs for a duration of 6 months, beginning in Autumn 2026, with the programme start date on or around 1 October 2026. The traineeship may be extended for up to a total of 12 months.

Your profile

We are looking for motivated individuals who:

  • are pursuing or have recently completed a Master degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or closely related field. PhD students are welcome; the tasks will be scaled to match their level;
  • have strong hands-on coding skills: Python and/or TypeScript are required;
  • can read, write, and debug real code independently;
  • have practical, working knowledge of large language models that goes beyond theoretical awareness: API usage, prompt engineering, tool use, RAG pipelines, embedding models;
  • are familiar with the modern AI tooling ecosystem;
  • have a solid understanding of core IT concepts: data modelling, REST APIs, version control (git), scripting;
  • have an interest in Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) is a plus; direct experience is not required;
  • have an analytical mindset and genuine intellectual curiosity;
  • are comfortable reading specifications, building from scratch, and iterating.
  • can communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders;
  • are genuinely excited by the technical frontier of AI, not just familiar with it as a concept, but actively building and experimenting with it;
  • enjoy working in a multinational and multicultural environment;
  • share the corporate behaviours of the Agency, i.e. result-driven, readiness to change, customer focus, integrity and team-player approach.

The EUROCONTROL Traineeship Programme provides successful candidates with the following benefits:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for any of our traineeship, you must comply with all of the following conditions:

  • Nationality: You must be a national of one of the EUROCONTROL or ECAC Member States;
  • Education: You are currently studying for a post-secondary educational qualification at Master's or PhD level. If you have graduated, the traineeship must start within one year after your date of graduation.
  • Language skills: Our working languages are English and French. To do a traineeship, you will need to have a good command of English (both written and verbal). Knowledge of French is a great asset, but not always a must.
  • No previous traineeships longer than 6 months at EUROCONTROL: Individuals with previous traineeships at EUROCONTROL lasting less than 6 months are eligible to apply. If you have completed a traineeship for less than 6 months previously, you may still undertake a second traineeship for up to a total duration of 12 months, including the previous traineeship.
