Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) was established in 2011 in Cairo, Egypt, and provides technical cooperation and capacity building for 18 countries across the Arab region. The Regional Office promotes and implements policies, programs and operational projects in UN-Habitat’s focus areas, at regional, national, and local levels, aimed at achieving sustainable urban development in the countries of the region, and provide technical cooperation services, upon request from governments. UN-Habitat ROAS covers all the operational activities and projects in 18 countries across the Arab Region; currently, with 12 active country programmes. UN-Habitat Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been tasked by the Quality of Life Program to provide technical and advisory services for the design, development, and promotion of a Global Quality of Life Index. The Index applies a universal and standardized methodology to support coherence and alignment across development partners, including the UN system. The project is structured around three outcomes: • Enhanced technical and institutional capacity of participating countries and cities to adapt and use the Global Quality of Life Index as a decision-support system, based on reliable, timely, and disaggregated data. • Enhanced understanding of local, national, and global urban quality of life trends, including challenges that hinder effective policy implementation and the formulation of transformative actions. • Enhanced capacity of local and national governments and development partners to adapt, use, and report on urban quality of life trends, including through voluntary local and national review processes using the harmonized Global Urban Monitoring Framework. Following completion of its first phase, the project is entering an interim phase of six months while the full second phase is being operationalized. The interim phase will focus on continued data collection for participating cities. Applicants should note that this is a full-time remote internship position. Candidates should be based within the GMT+0 to GMT+6 time zones. Applications from individuals located in Africa, Europe and the Middle East are encouraged to apply. Under the supervision of the Global Coordinator of the Quality of Life Initiative, and in close coordination with the technical team, the Data Support Intern will support index-related data management and quality assurance tasks, including survey review, data cleaning, processing, and miscellaneous technical backstopping support. Responsibilities 1. Support data management and processing activities • Support data cleaning, processing, organization, and review activities related to the Quality of Life Index. • Assist with data entry, dataset management, and basic validation processes. • Support organization and maintenance of datasets, spreadsheets, and related documentation. • Assist in identifying inconsistencies, missing values, and data quality issues. 2. Support survey review and localization processes • Review localized and translated survey forms for consistency, formatting, and completeness. • Support quality checks related to multilingual survey materials and datasets. • Assist with survey-related technical and administrative follow-up tasks, as required. 3. Provide general technical and operational support • Support routine data quality checks and documentation updates. • Assist in preparing basic tables, summaries, and data outputs. • Provide miscellaneous technical and backstopping support to the Quality of Life Initiative team, as required

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a degree in data science, statistics, urban studies, development studies, GIS, economics, geography, or a related field. In addition, successful applicants are expected to have demonstrated ability in one or more areas listed below: • Strong skills in data cleaning, processing, and analysis required. • Strong skills with spreadsheets, pivot tables, and data management tools required. • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies in datasets and survey materials. • Familiarity with GIS shapefiles or spatial datasets is an asset • Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. • Strong communication and teamwork skills. • Prior experience in data support, research, or analytical roles is desirable. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, additional UN language abilities desirable Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
