Mission and objectives
UNODC's mission is to contribute to global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.
Context
The Health and Development Programme supports national efforts to strengthen public health interventions through partnerships with government departments, United Nations agencies, civil society organizations and community-based structures. The programme contributes to improving health outcomes by supporting prevention initiatives, strengthening service delivery, promoting community engagement and generating evidence to inform policy and programme implementation.
In addition to supporting UNODC's Health and Development Programme, this assignment will contribute to the coordination and implementation of Results Group 2 under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). The UN Volunteer will support inter-agency coordination, information sharing, reporting and collaboration among participating UN entities, helping to strengthen joint planning and implementation of programmes that advance health, social development and human well-being in South Africa.
Hosted within the UNODC South Africa Country Office, the National UN Volunteer Associate will gain practical experience supporting both programme implementation and United Nations inter-agency coordination. Working closely with UNODC colleagues, Results Group members, government counterparts and development partners, the volunteer will contribute to programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, reporting and knowledge management while developing professional competencies through structured mentoring and workplace learning.
