Expected duration

The expected duration of the internship program is between 8 to 12 weeks and may be extended for a similar period depending on the performance and the intern availability.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Background UNRWA is the largest United Nations operation in the Middle East, providing assistance and protection to Palestine refugees across its five fields of operation. The Agency delivers education, health care, relief and social services, infrastructure and camp improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. The Supply Chain Department is strengthening its business processes, governance arrangements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and digital solutions to enhance efficiency, consistency, and service delivery across its functions, including Procurement, Vendor Management, Logistics, Inventory, Fleet Management, Administration and Travel. The UNRWA Supply Chain Innovation Internship Programme provides students and recent graduates with practical experience across six thematic tracks, while contributing to projects that support business improvement, digital transformation, and operational excellence. A total of six (6) internship vacancies are available under this Programme, one for each track described below. 2. Purpose of the Internship Programme The purpose of the internship is to provide students and recent graduates with an opportunity to: • Gain practical experience in a United Nations humanitarian environment. • Apply academic knowledge to practical workplace assignments. • Learn about Supply Chain functions and their contribution to humanitarian operations. • Develop professional, analytical and communication skills. • Gain exposure to business processes, data, systems, governance and continuous improvement activities. • Support defined projects and assignments under the guidance of experienced UNRWA staff. Interns will not be expected to perform managerial functions or make decisions on behalf of UNRWA. Their assignments will be designed according to their level of study and experience and will be carried out under appropriate supervision. Depending on departmental needs and the intern’s academic background, assignments may be available in one or more of the following areas: • Procurement: Exposure to procurement processes, sourcing, market research, procurement data, process improvement and digital solutions. • Logistics and Inventory: Exposure to logistics processes, inventory management, warehouse information, data analysis, reporting and performance monitoring. • Fleet Management and Systems: Exposure to fleet data, vehicle management systems, performance reporting, process improvement and sustainability initiatives. • Administration and Business Processes: Exposure to administrative processes, SOPs, technical instructions, process mapping, workflow improvement and governance documentation. • Data, Automation and Digital Innovation: Exposure to data analysis, dashboards, workflow automation, Artificial Intelligence applications, digital tools and business process improvement. 3. Duties and Responsibilities Under the guidance of the Internship Supervisor, the intern may: • Assist with research, data collection and analysis related to assigned projects. • Review available information and documents relevant to the assigned work. • Assist in documenting existing business processes and workflows. • Support the preparation and updating of SOPs, guidance documents, templates and working materials. • Assist with data analysis, reporting and preparation of dashboards. • Support the identification of process gaps, challenges and opportunities for improvement. • Conduct research and benchmarking on relevant practices used by international organizations and other institutions. • Assist in preparing presentations, reports and project documentation. • Support the testing or development of simple digital tools, forms, dashboards or automation concepts, where appropriate. • Participate in meetings and discussions relevant to the assigned project. • Maintain organized records of assigned work. • Present the results of the internship assignment to the supervisor or relevant team. • Perform other related learning and project assignments within the scope of the internship. The specific responsibilities will depend on the internship area, the student’s academic background and the agreed internship work plan. 4. Supervision and Performance evaluation Each intern will be assigned a designated supervisor who will: • Explain the internship objectives and assignment. • Agree on the work plan and expected deliverables. • Provide guidance and relevant background information. • Hold regular discussions with the intern. • Review work and provide feedback. • Support the intern’s learning and professional development. • Review the final assignment and provide an internship assessment. The level of supervision will be appropriate to the intern’s academic background and the nature of the assignment.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants should normally be in the final years of an undergraduate programme or currently enrolled in a Master’s programme; or recent graduates, subject to applicable UNRWA internship requirements. Applicants should be studying in a discipline relevant to the internship area, including but not limited to: • Supply Chain Management • Logistics and Supply Chain Management • Operations Management • Business Administration • Logistics, Inventory and Fleet • Industrial Engineering • Project Management • Organizational Development • Computer Science • Information Technology

Languages

• Excellent English written and verbal communication and report-writing skills

Additional Information

Other closely related disciplines may also be considered depending on the specific internship assignment. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate: • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.. • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. • Familiarity with Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, Visio, SQL, Python, GIS, ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle), or other data visualization/workflow tools is an advantage, depending on the track. • Ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively in a multicultural environment, while maintaining confidentiality.

Intern Specific text

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
