The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Timor-Leste aims to assist the Government of Timor-Leste to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security, reduce hunger and malnutrition, help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
FAO Timor-Leste (FATIM) is currently developing and implementing a number of programme initiatives related to climate resilience and natural resources management, including the Enhancing Early Warning Systems (EWS) to build greater resilience to hydro-meteorological hazards in Timor-Leste (GCF-EWS). Some of the outputs under the GCF-EWS include development of training materials in DRR and AA; formulation of compendium of technologies on DRR and AA generation; and creation and dissemination of climate change information and related advisories in the agricultural sector.
FATIM would like to recruit a Graphic Illustrator to work with project team on developing creative concepts and visual themes and designing of graphic illustrations that enrich training materials, messages and advisories for dissemination and better comprehension of the end users.
Reporting Lines
The Graphic Illustrator will work under the overall supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative for Programs and the day-to-day supervision of the Project Team Leader. The incumbent will also work closely with the FAO Communications Officer, and government institutions particularly ALGIS and the DRR and EWS Task Force who are responsible for formulation of training materials, generation, and dissemination of early warning information and advisories related to the agricultural sector.
Task and Responsibilities
The incumbent will draw original artworks and/or illustrations bearing in mind the intended audience, the product’s purpose and the indications received from the hiring unit and using professional design software. In particular task will include :
• Analyzing text and translating related concepts into illustrations; using colours, graphics and effects to better feature/visualize concepts; and, where needed, combining hand-drawn and painted artworks with computer and digital techniques for production development
• Perform 2 rounds of corrections following OCC/PWS and divisional quality checks; rounds of corrections are to be increased should the incumbent overlook corrections
• Delivering files in high- and low-resolution (for print and web dissemination), as well as the complete design packages (source files)
• Support the consultant and project teams on the development and finalization of DRR and AA training manual with relevant graphic illustrations
• Support the consultant and project team on the development and finalization of compendium of technologies on DRR and AA with relevant graphic illustrations

o Liaison with OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, aligned messaging, and appropriate review and clearance processes.

Minimum Requirements
• University degree in fine arts, graphic design or related field or relevant technical training/qualification
• Two years of experience in fine arts, graphic design or related field
• Working knowledge of English and Tetun, both written and spoken.

• Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams, communications staff and government counterparts to develop creative concepts and refine designs based on feedback.
• Ability to manage multiple design assignments and deliver quality outputs within agreed timelines.
• Familiarity with agriculture, climate change, disaster risk reduction, anticipatory action, early warning systems or community awareness materials would be an advantage.
• Good computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications and graphic design software.
