POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Communications Associate will provide integrated communications and outreach support for the implementation of the Leveraging Finance and Investments for a Green Transition (LIFT) program in Africa -a flagship regional initiative funded by Sida to strengthen climate finance ecosystems, support Ministries of Finance and financial institutions, mobilize investments for NDC implementation, and accelerate the green transition across participating African countries. The Senior Associate will oversee daily communication workflows, support donor visibility, ensure strict compliance with Sida and GGGI standards. You will contribute to campaign strategies, communicate program results, enhance program visibility across digital and traditional media, promote knowledge sharing, highlight impact to key stakeholders -successfully position GGGI as a leading partner on sustainable finance and climate investment. The position will be part of the Africa Regional Office based in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

PURPOSE

The Senior Communications Associate helps with strategically positioning GGGI's brand by designing, coordinating, and executing impactful communication campaigns across the region, strengthening the organization's visibility, positioning, and influence. A core focus of the role is communicating the LIFT programme's contribution to climate finance, investment mobilization, sustainable finance, green financial sector development, and regional knowledge exchange while supporting broader communication efforts of the Africa Regional Office as feasible

ENGAGEMENT

The Communications Senior Associate is expected to: 

  • Report directly to the LIFT Program Manager and indirectly to the Head of Strategy and Partnerships. 

  • Collaborate with regional leadership, technical teams, MEL, and project managers to ensure communications are strategically aligned with program goal. 

  • Coordinate communications across participating African countries to ensure consistent messaging and branding.  

  • Support communication and visibility requirements of Sida and other program partners.  

  • Liaise with Ministries of Finance, financial institutions and implementing partners as needed to develop communication materials highlighting program results.  

  • Support communication activities associated with regional workshops, peer learning events and knowledge exchanges. 

  • Guide and support country teams in maintaining brand consistency and quality assurance across all communication outputs.  

  • Other regional communications tasks as feasible and instructed by the Africa Regional Director.  

DELIVERY
  • Develop and implement the LIFT Program Communications and Visibility Plan, ensuring alignment with Sida visibility requirements, GGGI corporate communications standards, and program objectives. 

  • Lead the development of high-quality communication products showcasing program achievements, including success stories, case studies, impact stories, newsletters, brochures, presentations and multimedia content. 

  • Translate complex technical work on climate finance, sustainable finance, investment mobilization and green financial sector development into compelling and accessible communication products for a wide range of audiences. 

  • Coordinate communication inputs across participating countries to ensure consistent messaging, branding and timely dissemination of program results. 

  • Support program knowledge management by documenting lessons learned, best practices and innovative approaches emerging from LIFT implementation across Africa. 

  • Produce high-quality communication materials for donor reporting, program steering meetings, regional workshops, high-level events and external stakeholder engagement. 

  • Support the organization and communication of regional learning events, peer exchanges, technical workshops and ministerial dialogues, including preparation of agendas, communication materials, event coverage and post-event products. 

  • Develop and maintain a library of program communication assets, including photographs, videos, graphics, publications, templates and success stories. 

  • Provide inputs to guidance and quality assuance for web stories, press releases, blogs, newsletters and social media content highlighting program milestones , investment outcomes and impactful messaging  across all communication channels 

  • Support communication related to resource mobilization by preparing communication materials, investment narratives and program overviews for prospective development partners and donors. 

  • Work closely with technical specialists to communicate how policy reforms, institutional strengthening and technical assistance contribute to investment mobilization and climate finance outcomes. 

  • Coordinate with country teams, implementing partners and consultants to ensure timely collection of communication materials and program achievements. 

  • Monitor communication performance through appropriate indicators and analytics, preparing regular reports and recommending improvements to communication approaches. 

  • Ensure quality assurance and consistency of all communication products, maintaining compliance with GGGI branding guidelines and donor visibility requirements. 

  • Support implementation of GGGI's Global Communications and Knowledge Sharing Strategy by contributing selected program content to corporate communication channels. 

  • Ensure consistency in key messaging across GGGI platforms, including websites and social media, to maintain a cohesive brand identity 

  • Perform other communication and knowledge management duties as assigned in support of the Regional Office. 

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications
  • At least a bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Development Studies or another relevant field. (Master's degree preferred.)
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, knowledge management or public affairs, preferably within international development, multilateral organizations or donor-funded programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication strategies, visibility plans and outreach campaigns for complex multi-country or regional programmes.
  • Proven experience translating technical and policy-oriented content into clear, engaging communication products for diverse audiences.
  • Experience supporting donor visibility, strategic communications and knowledge management for development programmes is highly desirable.
  • Experience producing a wide range of communication materials, including web stories, case studies, newsletters, presentations, social media content, multimedia products and publications.
  • Experience organizing and supporting high-level events, workshops, conferences and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Strong understanding of digital communications, audience engagement, content strategy and social media management.
  • Knowledge of climate change, sustainable development, climate finance, green finance, sustainable finance or investment mobilization is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with international climate finance institutions and development partners (e.g. GCF, MDBs, bilateral donors, UN agencies) would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) systems and communicating programme results using evidence and data is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Canva are required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro), website content management systems, social media management platforms and AI-assisted communication tools is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multicultural teams and coordinate communication activities with multiple stakeholders across different countries.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Associate is a National Position at G7 grade level in GGGI’s national salary scale. The salary range for the position starts at USD 32,458 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision.
