About the RoleThis role sits within Gavi’s Market Shaping team in the Vaccine Programmes Markets & Health Security department and reports to the Senior Specialist, Future Supplier Base Strategy and Regional Manufacturing. The role works closely with internal teams including Resource Mobilization, Finance, Legal, Risk & Compliance, Governance, Policy, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL), and Country Support, as well as external stakeholders such as UNICEF Supply Division, vaccine manufacturers, donors, WHO, CEPI, CHAI, Africa CDC, and the African Medicines Agency.The role leads the operationalization, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Gavi’s African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA). Through evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and strategic analysis, the role helps ensure AVMA achieves its objectives, informs regional manufacturing strategy, supports governance and donor accountability, and enables data-driven course corrections to strengthen programme impact and manage risk.2. Key Responsibilities- Lead the operationalization and ongoing implementation of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA), ensuring delivery against programme objectives and alignment with Gavi’s regional manufacturing strategy.- Drive monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities for AVMA, generating evidence and insights that inform programme performance, strategic decision-making, and periodic course corrections.- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration across Gavi teams and Alliance partners to ensure effective governance, implementation, risk management, and stakeholder alignment.- Develop high-quality reporting, analyses, annual updates, and periodic reviews for Gavi governance bodies, donors, and other key stakeholders to support transparency and accountability.- Provide strategic and technical input into AVMA course corrections, reviews, and governance processes, contributing to recommendations and supporting endorsement through relevant decision-making forums.- Manage engagement with vaccine manufacturers and other external stakeholders, including planning, preparation, follow-up, and reporting associated with AVMA Manufacturing Forums.- Lead ecosystem analyses, manufacturing landscape reviews, and learning agendas that strengthen regional manufacturing planning, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and inform Gavi’s broader market shaping strategies.Note: The essential functions listed in this section are not exhaustive of the job responsibilities; other duties may be assigned consistently with the department needs.3. Your Experience and SkillsProfessional Experience: - Typically 8–12 years of professional experience in pharmaceuticals, biologicals, health commodities, or related healthcare sectors, with at least 3 years in vaccine markets required.- Experience in life sciences consulting, financing, investment, business development, commercial operations, procurement, tendering, research and development, or manufacturing-related functions.- Experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities, including data collection, performance monitoring, evidence generation, and analytical reporting.- Experience producing high-quality written, analytical, and presentation materials for senior internal and external stakeholders.- Experience synthesizing complex technical, strategic, and market-related issues into actionable insights and recommendations.- Experience working with multilateral organisations, Alliance partners, donors, or global health stakeholders, including engagement at senior levels.- Experience in developing-country contexts is advantageous.Education & Qualifications:Essential:- Degree in Life Sciences, Public Health, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.Good to have:- MBA or equivalent business-related qualification.Technical & Functional Skills:Must-have:- Vaccine and health commodity market knowledge (advanced)— understanding of vaccine, pharmaceutical, biological, or health commodity markets and the industry dynamics that influence access, supply and market shaping decisions.- Vaccine industry economics and operating models (working knowledge to advanced)— ability to apply understanding of vaccine industry economics, business models, manufacturing and supply chain considerations to AVMA and regional manufacturing work.- Monitoring, evaluation and learning (advanced) — ability to design and deliver data collection, analysis, performance monitoring and reporting activities that generate evidence for programme improvement.- Analytical reporting and evidence-based recommendations (advanced)— ability to develop governance papers, donor updates, technical analyses and recommendations that support decision-making and accountability.- Cross-functional alignment and consensus-building (advanced) — ability to facilitate decision-making and alignment across Gavi teams, Alliance partners and stakeholders with differing priorities.- Multi-stakeholder collaboration in global health (advanced) — ability to manage collaborations involving global health organisations, manufacturers, donors and partners in complex programme environments.- Communication of complex technical information (advanced)— ability to translate technical and analytical information into clear presentations, reports and strategic briefings for diverse audiences.Good to have:- Regional manufacturing ecosystem analysis (working knowledge) — understanding of market landscape assessment, manufacturing ecosystem mapping and dependency reviews relevant to regional vaccine manufacturing.- Learning agenda and programme improvement processes (advanced)— ability to develop and implement learning agendas, reviews and improvement processes that inform programme effectiveness, risk management and strategic planning.- Governance process support in multilateral settings (working knowledge)— experience preparing inputs for governance, donor or Board-related processes within multinational or multilateral organisations.Languages Needed: - Fluent English, written and verbal.- French would be an asset.4.
