Mission and objectives
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Accra, a part of the UN Department of Global Communications, is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Ghana. It promotes greater public understanding of the UN’s work, values, and priorities, while supporting advocacy on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNIC engages with media, civil society, academia, and youth to amplify UN messaging and foster dialogue on peace, justice, inclusion, and sustainable development.
Context
To strengthen its digital presence and outreach, and support its coordination role, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) seeks a Digital Communications Assistant with strong skills in writing, graphic design, photography, and videography. The role will ensure impactful storytelling, enhance visibility of UN initiatives, and support advocacy campaigns across digital platforms. As the lead of the UN Communications Group in Ghana, UNIC coordinates joint communications efforts across UN agencies, ensuring coherence, visibility, and impact of the UN system’s collective messaging. The Digital Communications Assistant will also contribute to inter-agency communications coordination. Task description
The Digital Communications Assistant will work under the supervision of the National Information Officer and will be responsible for supporting:
- Content Creation & Digital Advocacy:
Develop and design social media content (graphics, cards, Gifs, infographics, videos).
Draft and edit news stories, press releases, and digital newsletters.
Capture and edit photographs and short videos for campaigns and events.
Integrate Ghanaian languages into selected digital products to promote inclusivity.
- Social Media & Online Engagement:
Support the management of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Accra’s social media platforms, ensuring timely and engaging updates.
Monitor online engagement, prepare analytics reports, and recommend improvements.
Support digital campaigns aligned with United Nations (UN) priorities in Ghana, with emphasis on youth-focused initiatives.
- Media Relations:
Coordinate media invitations, manage journalists, and facilitate interviews during events.
Ensure donor visibility and recognition across digital platforms.
- Knowledge Management & Reporting:
Produce regular reports on digital outreach and communications impact.
Contribute to the development of innovative advocacy strategies.
- Other Duties:
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support communications and partnerships.
