About this position

The IDB Group is looking for an active undergraduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality. 

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

Office of Institutional Integrity (OII) plays a key role in leading the IDB Group’s integrity efforts. The office is responsible for investigating allegations in connection with prohibited practices (i.e. fraud, corruption, collusion, coercion, misappropriation, and obstruction of an investigation) in IDB Group-financed activities, as well as conducting prevention activities designed to identify and manage the risk that prohibited practices or similar misconduct may occur in IDB Group operations. Additionally, OII supports IDB Invest by overseeing compliance with its Integrity Framework and Integrity Due Diligence Procedures on a project-by-project basis.

In 2018, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved an Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Framework. This Framework formalized the IDB’s commitment to managing the risks associated with money laundering and the financing of terrorism in its activities, in alignment with international best practices and consistent with risk management practices. It also established a uniform, Bankwide approach to managing: (i) the risk that the Bank could be utilized to facilitate money laundering or terrorist financing, and (ii) the reputational impact that may arise from conducting transactions with entities and individuals associated with money laundering, terrorist financing, or other criminal activities.

The Intern will support the AML/CFT Compliance Function in its second-line oversight responsibilities, with particular emphasis on AML/CFT risk and control assessments, control testing activities, compliance monitoring, data analysis, documentation and reporting.

What you’ll do

Provide analytical and administrative support to the AML/CFT Compliance Function in the execution of its oversight responsibilities, including the testing and evaluation of AML/CFT risks and controls across the Bank's corporate activities. This will include:

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of the 2026-2027 AML/CFT controls testing exercise.
  • Support the maintenance of the AML/CFT Risk and Control Matrix (RCM) and related testing inventories.
  • Collect, organize, and review control documentation and evidence provided by business units.
  • Assist in documenting business processes and controls.
  • Support testing of control design and operating effectiveness under the supervision of AML/CFT compliance staff.

What you'll need

  • Education: An active undergraduate student in Business Administration and Risk Management, Finance and Data Analytics, Law and International Relations, or Information Systems and Compliance and Risk from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period
  • Languages: Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Key Skills: Learn continuously, collaborate and share knowledge, focus on clients, communicate and influence, innovate and try new things
  • Soft Skills: Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills.
  • Technical skills: (i) Familiarity with AML/CFT, sanctions, risk and control testing, audit or compliance concepts is desirable; (ii) Strong analytical and research abilities; (iii) Ability to organize and analyze data sets; (iv) Excellent written and communication skills; and (v) Knowledge of international financial institutions, development banks or regulatory frameworks is an asset.

  • Citizenship: Be a national of an
  • Active student: Enrolled in an undergraduate (bachelor’s) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
  • First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.

    • If you are an international student in the U.S.A., your work authorization is through CPT or OPT. Consult your school advisor before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week, many international students are limited to working part-time, depending on their academic standing.
