Overview of positionThe Innovation Support Expert will provide and support innovative technological initiatives
across the mission
This position is in the United Nations Command, Control, Communication, Computer and
Information/Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Academy for peace
operations (UNCAP) Unit of the Regional Field Technology Service (RFTS) in the Regional
Service Centre Entebbe.
Role objectivesThe functions of the Innovative Support Expert may include any of the
following roles:
Provides specialized and innovative advice on complex systems analysis and design; identifies the need for new systems (or modifications to existing systems) and responds to requests from users; contributes to the development of plans for feasibility assessment, requirements specification, design, development and implementation, including project plan, schedules, time and cost estimates, metrics and performance measures.
Plans and implements information management initiatives of significant importance to UNCAP
Provide innovative and strategic and operational leadership for technology, covering but not limited to workshops, training,
Provides project management, quality assurance and coordination support for the UNCAP innovation support portfolio, ensuring activities, deliverables, timelines, risks and dependencies are properly planned, tracked, documented and completed in line with agreed standards.
Maintains work plans, action trackers, deliverable registers, issue logs, risk registers, meeting records and follow-up mechanisms to strengthen accountability, audit readiness, knowledge management and institutional continuity.
Coordinates with ICT, military, UN police, civilian, gender, functional and mission stakeholders to capture requirements, address cross-cutting needs, identify gaps, escalate risks and support timely resolution of service-impacting issues.
Supports the design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of technical, substantive, safety and security, leadership, communication and planning training for uniformed personnel, civilian staff and field mission personnel.
Organizes training sessions, workshops, briefings and refresher courses, ensuring facilities, equipment, learning resources, training materials, participant records and instructor notes are accurate, available and ready for use.
Administers and supports the Academy’s e-learning portal and learning management system, including enrolment processing, learner records, usage monitoring, reporting and client guidance on learning activities and procedures.
Prepares management summaries, meeting notes, reports, briefing inputs and written responses on innovation support, project coordination, quality assurance, training delivery and portfolio performance; serves as liaison between client missions and the Academy.
Project reportingThe Training Assistant at this level reports to the UNCAP Program Management Officer.
Key competenciesEducation
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in
providing assistance in planning and implementation of projects/programmes in the area of
training and advanced education, is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post
advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official
United Nations language is desirable.
Team managementThis role has no team management.
