About You

The Chief Fire Officer manages the full operations of the MFO Fire Departments based at North Camp and South Camp. This role provides full-performance-level leadership to the emergency response team, guiding fire prevention, fire suppression, and pre-suppression activities across MFO operations. The successful candidate will act as the MFO's Fire and Rescue Subject Matter Expert (SME), advising leadership on policy direction for building safety and disaster management.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Operational Command & Emergency Response

  • Provide full-performance leadership and command for all fires, accidents, and safety emergencies across MFO sites. 
  • Direct all firefighting operations in compliance with NFPA, UK standards, or equivalent professional industry frameworks. 
  • Maintain standby/on-call readiness to respond to operational incidents according to internal schedules and changing THREATCOM levels. 

Strategic Planning & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the Fire Department’s annual and multi-year budget, including equipment replacement cycles and operational planning, in collaboration with the Facilities Engineering Officer. 
  • Coordinate with procurement teams in Cairo and Tel Aviv to source cost-effective fire and rescue equipment and services. 
  • Oversee departmental record-keeping, maintenance schedules, property inventories, and equipment readiness. 

Training, Personnel Development & Capacity Building

  • Direct, manage, and mentor international Fire Officers and Egyptian National (EN) firefighting personnel. 
  • Design and implement an On-the-Job Training (OJT) program for EN staff to meet and sustain MFO firefighter performance standards. 
  • Deliver fire safety and prevention instruction for all MFO civilian and military personnel. 

Policy, Prevention & Advisory

  • Enforce MFO fire prevention regulations, conduct safety inspections, investigate incidents, and recommend remedial actions. 
  • Advise senior leadership (CSP/DCSP) on policies, regulatory updates, building safety, and major emergency management protocols. 
  • Standardize equipment specifications, training methods, and Standard Operating Procedures (FSOPs) across both station locations.

 Education and Experience:  

  • 5+ years of experience in local authority, civil aviation, or military fire service, including at least five years at the Station Officer or Senior NCO level.
  • At least five years of fire prevention experience, with familiarity in NFPA and UK-recognized safety regulations.
  • Certification under NFPA 1000 or 1001, or a UK Equivalent.
  • Current qualifications for Fire Officer, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Hazmat Awareness, and First Responder (Medical) or higher.
  • Membership in a recognized professional Fire Prevention or Industrial Safety Organization.

Our Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain a current valid driving license for (UK) Category C (Large goods) vehicles. Must be able to acquire and maintain a MFO driving license of equal capacity.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of incident command system. 
  • Extensive knowledge of fire and emergency services operations.
  • Must have mental alertness, mechanical aptitude and be physically fit. 
  • Must have served as, at least Sub Officer (civil), or Senior NCO (military) rank.
  • English as a first language preferable, however must have a good command of both written and spoken English to be able to communicate with English speaking employees and Engineering personnel. Arabic will also be an advantage.

 Conditions of Employment:

  • This position carries an annual total salary of USD $94,000 gross.
  • A two-year, renewable, unaccompanied-status contract including free housing, meals, worldwide health insurance and recreational facilities is offered. May be eligible for tax free status.
  • Any appointment/extension of appointment is subject to the MFO HR Directives and other relevant internal rules. Any offer of employment with the MFO is conditional upon certification by the MFO Medical Adviser that the person concerned is medically fit to perform the specific inherent requirements of the position offered. To confirm an offer from the MFO the successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical examination.
  • Any extension of employment contracts is subject to various elements including the following:  continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.
