Purpose for the Post
The Data Engineering Assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation, maintenance, and operational continuity of the Organization's digital platforms, including business applications, workflows, and data systems.
The role supports the reliable operation and continuous improvement of in-house applications, SharePoint services, workflow automation solutions, and data processing activities. It contributes to the integrity, performance, security, and compliance of digital platforms while supporting the Organization's digital transformation initiatives in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Data Engineering Assistant will perform the following functions:
User Access and Workflow Configuration
- Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions for web-based applications (WebAccounts administration), including onboarding/offboarding and periodic access reviews.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain workflows for online forms, SharePoint web parts, and related web components.
- Apply routine updates and system checks to ensure applications are stable, secure, and performing efficiently.
Application Development Support
- Identify and resolve minor bugs within internal applications and web forms.
- Support developers during code deployments, configuration changes, and testing cycles.
- Assist with data migrations and basic integration support between platforms and systems.
Data Management and Preparation
- Collect, validate, and cleanse datasets from multiple sources to ensure consistency and usability for analysis.
- Conduct quality checks and audits on data pipelines, ensuring integrity across data sources.
- Configure and maintain automated data feeds and workflows supporting dashboards, BI tools, and analytics platforms.
Technical User Support
- Respond to user requests and service tickets related to system workflows, data processing, or minor application issues.
- Provide guidance to users on application features, workflows, and troubleshooting steps.
- Escalate complex system or data integration issues to relevant developers or system administrators.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain records of system configurations, workflow logic, and historical changes to applications.
- Prepare and update technical guides, quick reference materials, and FAQs to promote user self-service and consistent support practices.
- Share lessons learned and suggest improvements to ICTS procedures and service delivery models.
Performs other job-related activities required to support the goals and objectives of the secretariat.
Required Competencies
Technical / Functional Competencies
- Experience supporting the design and implementation of web applications, automated workflows, and dashboards
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft .NET, SharePoint, Power BI, and Power Automate
- Familiarity with full-stack technologies (e.g. ASP.NET, Angular/React, SQL)
- Knowledge of data management, validation, and reporting processes
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve application, workflow, SharePoint, and data-related issues
- Ability to support testing, deployments, and configuration updates
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to produce and maintain accurate technical documentation

Professional Experience
- Minimum of six years’ practical experience in IT application support, data management, software development, or related fields.
- Experience in managing user accounts and permissions, configuring workflows, and supporting application deployments.
- Familiarity with working with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power BI, Angular, Azure, Fabric and Power Automate would be a bonus.
- Experience working in an international, multicultural environment is desirable.
Education
- Completion of secondary education is required.
- Additional training or certifications in information technology, software development practices, SharePoint administration, data management, or related fields are desirable.
Language Skills
Proficiency in English (oral and written) is essential.
Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
