Job Description

TheInternationalPotatoCenter(CIP)isseekingoneSeniorResearchAssociate-MolecularBreedertoprovide impact in the discovery and
application of molecular techniques that support trait selection and genetic
enhancement of potato and sweet potato. Also, to provide leadership within the
breeding research team at CIP-China for Asia Pacific (CCCAP).

About the role: This position will be based in Yanqing
District of Beijing. Will be under the direct supervision andguidanceoftheCCCAPCountryLiaisonScientist.ThispositionrequirestheidealcandidatetoworkinCCCAP
40 hours per week based on the tasks assigned by the research team, performing
the tasks described below.

Key responsibilities:

Theidealcandidatewillmainlyfocusonthesetasks/responsibilitiesbelow:

  • Guaranteetheoperationalresultsoftheexperimentalstation.

  • ExecuteandleadthemolecularbreedingandgeneticresearchteamofYanqingResearchCenter

  • Designandcreategenetictoolsandexperiments,stayingabreastandapplyingadvancesinthefield

  • Workcloselywithotherlaboratorypersonneltoenhancemoleculartechniquesappliedacrossall sections of CCCAP’s
    research agenda.

  • WorkcloselywiththeGermplasmDistributionCenterforanalysisofgeneticmaterialsheldintrust.

  • Identify hazards and assess the risks of the
    laboratories, implementing measures to prevent, mitigate and reduce the risks.

  • Keep updated and be responsible for all
    maintenance issues, calibrations, repairs, and improvements of any material,
    equipment, space and infrastructure at the laboratories, to ensure equipment
    works properly at all times.

  • Keep updated with all training and
    certifications required for the optimal management and performance of the
    laboratories.

  • Ensurepersonnelworkinginthelaboratorieshavebeenproperlytrainedandsupervisedintheirregular tasksandduties. Ensureallpersonnelareregularlyupdated ineverythingrelatedtoHealthandSafety
    on the job.

  • Complywithrelevantlabor,environmental,industrial(ifapplicable),andhealthandsafetyregulations from local, national and
    international laws, policies and regulations as well as comply with all CIP and
    CCCAP internal policies and procedures.

  • In collaboration with CCCAP’s Yanqing Property
    Facilities Senior Manager, perform the necessary administrative procedures,
    according to Chinese and CIP/CCCAP standards, rules and regulations, to ensure
    the proper functioning of the laboratory facilities.

Requirements

  • MScinBiology,Microbiologyand/orrelatedAgriculturalSciencesspecialization.PhDalso accepted.

  • Atleast 8yearsofexperienceinsimilarposition.

  • Experienceinlab,peopleandprojectmanagement.

  • Knowledgeofthelatesttechnologiesapplicabletomolecularbiology,geneticsandgenomics.
