YPs join the World Bank Group on an initial two-year term contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. During this period, YPs complete three eight-month rotations: one with their primary function and area of expertise, one cross-institutional rotation, and at least one rotation based in a country office. These assignments enable YPs deepen their technical and operational knowledge while gaining experience across different areas of the institution.
Through the YP Academy, YPs undertake a structured learning and development journey that includes technical and operational training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. They also receive individual coaching, connect with mentors, and participate in strategic dialogues with senior leaders.

The Environmental and Social (E&S) team for the Colombia, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean region (CCMES) support IFC investment operations by providing E&S due diligence, portfolio supervision, and advisory inputs to investment teams and clients. The team manages a diverse portfolio across REAL sector (Infrastructure and Manufacturing), Financial Intermediaries, and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Upstream Advisory projects, with ongoing demands related to appraisal, supervision, and client engagement.
To strengthen operational delivery and enhance the team’s ability to manage concurrent transactions and portfolio activities, the team is seeking a young professional to provide analytical and operational support across E&S functions.
What You’ll Deliver
• Due Diligence (Appraisal Support): Assist in the review of new investment projects, including preliminary E&S risk screening and review of client documentation (e.g., ESMS, policies, technical reports). Support the preparation of draft E&S inputs for internal investment documents, including gap analyses against IFC Performance Standards and contributions to Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs).
• Supervision and Portfolio Monitoring: Support ongoing supervision of active investments by reviewing Annual Monitoring Reports, tracking ESAP implementation, and contributing to internal risk assessments. Assist in the preparation of supervision summaries, including synthesis of key issues such as incidents, non-compliance, and emerging risks. Provide support for planning and preparation of supervision missions and site visits.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Consolidate and analyze E&S data across the portfolio, including key performance indicators and trends related to compliance and risk. Support the preparation of internal briefing notes, summaries, and simple dashboards for management.
• Client and Internal Coordination: Assist in coordinating with investment teams, clients, and external consultants. Prepare background materials and input for client meetings and internal discussions and support the delivery of E&S-related training or knowledge-sharing activities where needed.
• Day-to-Day Operational Support: Provide support to the E&S team and manager on operational and administrative tasks, including document organization, preparation of presentations, follow-up on action items, and tracking of key deliverables. Contribute to improving team efficiency through better organization and standardization of outputs.
• Learning and Development Objectives: The role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the application of IFC Performance Standards and E&S risk management across the investment cycle. The candidate will develop skills in analytical work, client interaction, and operational delivery within a country office setting, consistent with the objectives of the WBG Explorers Program.
- Minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field
- 2-6 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong interest in sustainable development, environmental and social risk management
- Solid analytical and writing skills
- Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages is ad advantage
