YPs join the World Bank Group on an initial two-year term contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. During this period, YPs complete three eight-month rotations: one with their primary function and area of expertise, one cross-institutional rotation, and at least one rotation based in a country office. These assignments enable YPs deepen their technical and operational knowledge while gaining experience across different areas of the institution.
Through the YP Academy, YPs undertake a structured learning and development journey that includes technical and operational training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. They also receive individual coaching, connect with mentors, and participate in strategic dialogues with senior leaders.
Reporting to the Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Administrative Officer, the Corporate Security Directorate (WCSDR) is responsible for the strategic security program that empowers the World Bank Group to carry out its business worldwide. The Directorate’s mission is to support global operations by employing risk mitigation strategies and promoting the principle of shared responsibility for security and safety.
What you will deliver
You will be part of the Corporate Security’s Physical Security and Fire Life Safety Engineering team and report to, and receive support and direction from the Manager, Corporate Security (WCSS4), through the responsible Senior Security Specialist based.
- Serve as a technical advisor on physical security, security systems, and fire life safety, ensuring projects meet relevant standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Provide guidance from planning through commissioning; review designs and submittals; conduct site assessments; monitor implementation quality; advise stakeholders; support guidelines, training, and technical queries; manage budgets prudently; and develop project requirements for perimeter security, access control, CCTV, alarms, safe havens, lighting, barriers, and building/fire code compliance.
- Advise WBG on physical security, security systems, and fire life safety requirements.
- Develop technical requirements for real estate projects from planning through commissioning.
- Review designs, submittals, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with WBG and international standards.
- Conduct site assessments and monitor implementation of security and fire life safety measures.
- Collaborate with Corporate Real Estate, Country Security Specialists, and project teams.
- Support WBG guidelines, training, technical queries, and prudent budget management.
What you will bring
- Minimum of a master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 2–6 years of relevant professional experience in designing, project management and maintenance of physical security, security systems, and/or Fire Life Safety systems.
- Demonstrated interest in development work and the World Bank Group’s mission.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to successfully perform complex design reviews. Proven experience in physical security resource management, including but not limited to procurement and budgeting.
- Familiar with security risk assessment, risk mitigation programs and procedures for operations in varied operating risk environments.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-based environments.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in English; Fluency in another language, particularly French and/or Spanish is considered an advantage.
