Overview of positionOur client provides mission-wide communications and information technology services in support of MONUSCO operations. The Infrastructure Support Unit manages critical telecommunications infrastructure, including microwave transmission systems, communications towers, antenna systems, radio networks, satellite communications, and supporting power infrastructure located throughout the Mission Area.
Microwave communications systems constitute a critical component of MONUSCO's communications backbone, providing connectivity between mission locations where commercial telecommunications services are unavailable or unreliable. These systems support mission command and control, operational coordination, safety communications, information systems, and service delivery across geographically dispersed locations.
The Microwave and Telecommunications Rigging Specialist provides technical expertise for the installation, operation, maintenance, and optimization of microwave transmission infrastructure, communication towers, antenna systems, waveguide installations, feeder systems, and associated telecommunications equipment. The incumbent serves as the technical lead for tower climbing, rigging operations, infrastructure inspections, and implementation of telecommunications infrastructure projects.
Role objectivesThe Telecommunications Tower/Rigging and Microwave Specialist provides critical technical expertise necessary to maintain and expand the mission's telecommunications backbone. The position ensures the operational reliability of microwave transmission systems that connect mission locations and support essential communications services.
Without this position, the mission would face:
Reduced maintenance capacity for microwave infrastructure.
Delays in restoration of communications services following outages.
Increased dependence on contractors for critical telecommunications functions.
Reduced oversight of tower safety and rigging activities.
Delays in implementation of telecommunications infrastructure projects.
Increased operational risks associated with remote-site communications.
Loss of critical technical knowledge and engineering expertise.
Reduced business continuity for mission communications infrastructure.
The position is therefore essential to maintaining mission-wide telecommunications connectivity, ensuring safe rigging operations, supporting infrastructure modernization initiatives, and sustaining reliable communications services in support of MONUSCO's mandate.
Project reportingThis role does not have reporting requirements.
