What We Do
UNICEF works to protect the rights of every child in South Sudan
Context
UNICEF works in South Sudan to protect and promote the rights of every child, with a focus on reaching the most vulnerable children, adolescents, families and communities affected by conflict, displacement, disease outbreaks, food insecurity, climate-related shocks and other humanitarian emergencies. UNICEF supports the Government of South Sudan and partners to deliver integrated programmes in health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection, social policy, and social and behaviour change.
This UNV assignment is part of UNICEF South Sudan’s Social and Behaviour Change programme and Accountability to Affected Population will strengthen knowledge management, reporting, monitoring and evaluation systems for SBC-AAP results. The assignment will support the evidence generation, including rapid assessment, support sectoral programme behavioural research/insight/assessment, consolidation, analysis and dissemination of evidence on SBC-AAP interventions, including community engagement, accountability to affected populations, social listening, behaviour change communication, emergency RCCE, capacity development and cross-sectoral SBC-AAP support. The role will help ensure that SBC-AAP evidence, lessons learned and results are systematically documented and used for programme adaptation, donor reporting, management decision-making and strategic positioning of SBC as a programme accelerator.
This UNV assignment is part of UNICEF South Sudan’s Social and Behaviour Change programme and Accountability to Affected Population will strengthen knowledge management, reporting, monitoring and evaluation systems for SBC-AAP results. Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief, Social and Behaviour Change, or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV SBC Specialist – Knowledge Management, Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation will:
• Support the design, development, management and implementation of SBC-AAP knowledge management and information systems, tools and processes to capture, organize, analyse and disseminate evidence, lessons learned, promising practices and programme results across UNICEF South Sudan and partner platforms.
• Contribute to the development, quality assurance and timely submission of SBC-AAP including RCCE inputs for donor reports, situation reports, programme updates, annual and mid-year reviews, management briefs, proposals, case studies and human-interest documentation.
• Support monitoring and evaluation of SBC-AAP activities by consolidating field data, partner reports, community feedback, social listening findings and programme indicators, and by preparing analytical summaries that inform adaptive programming and management decisions.
• Develop and maintain SBC-AAP dashboards, trackers, reporting matrices and knowledge repositories in coordination with Programme Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting, field offices, programme sections and implementing partners.
• Support documentation and synthesis of SBC-AAP and RCCE contributions to cross-sectoral results, including immunization, maternal and child health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection, emergency preparedness and response, and accountability to affected populations to promote closure of feedback loop.
• Provide technical and coordination support for SBC-AAP assessments, end user monitoring, rapid perception surveys, community feedback analysis, social listening, lessons-learned exercises and learning events, ensuring findings are transformed into practical recommendations.
• Build the capacity of UNICEF staff, implementing partners and government counterparts on SBC-AAP reporting standards, data quality, documentation, knowledge sharing and results-based monitoring approaches.
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Results/expected outputs:
• As an active UNICEF South Sudan team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support is provided to UNICEF and its partners in strengthening SBC knowledge management, reporting, monitoring and evaluation functions, including:
• SBC evidence, field monitoring findings, community feedback and social listening insights are systematically consolidated and used to inform programme adaptation and decision-making.
• High-quality SBC contributions to donor reports, situation reports, programme reviews, proposals, learning products and management briefs are prepared on time and aligned with UNICEF reporting standards.
• SBC knowledge products, dashboards, trackers, case studies, lessons learned and good-practice documentation are maintained and shared with relevant internal and external audiences.
• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
