About this position
The IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic and client-oriented individual to lead operations as part of its Venture Capital Investments Division at Headquarters. The IDB Lab adds relevant value to those ventures during their business consolidation and expansion and fosters their impact towards solving some of the most pressing development and inclusion challenges of different sectors in LAC (Fintech, Edteche, Healthtech, Agtech/Biotech etc.).
You will work in The Venture Capital Investments Division (LAB-VCI) at IDB Lab that is responsible for originating and managing the portfolio of reimbursable operations (equity and debt).
LAB/VCI has a systemic role of filling key funding gaps, bridging key connections in different fields (e.g., public and private), and mobilizing key ecosystem resources, from climate-related funding to gender and diversity funding, to support specific ventures with outstanding socioeconomic or environmental impact potential
What you’ll do
- Originate deal flow that could become potential investment opportunities by working and developing relationships with public and private institutions that support entrepreneurs (venture capital funds, accelerators, etc.) and with the Investment Officers in different countries across the region.
- Assess investment opportunities in high-impact and high-growth startups, including leading or participating in due diligence, financial modeling and valuation analysis, and market and exit analysis, among other activities.
- Negotiate investment terms with high-impact and high-growth startups alongside Investment Officers, legal, and compliance teams.
- Prepare investment memorandums as well as other operative and strategic documents related to DB Lab's equity investments in start-ups.
- Create decks and other materials to support investor relations and reporting, fundraising, and business development opportunities.
- Support the supervision of positions within the DB Lab's financial portfolio, particularly the direct equity investments in early-stage firms, adding value to foster these firms' impact and growth.
- Participate in the strategic management of DB Lab's equity investments in start-ups; the aim is to achieve development objectives (impact, innovation) while also generating expected financial returns.
What you'll need
• Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in areas related to Finance, Business or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant professional experience may be considered in accordance with the Institution's assessment.
• Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in investment, preferably in venture capital, with a relevant transactional track record (including preparing Investment Memoranda, presentations to Investment Committees, and terms and conditions negotiations). Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean will be highly valued
• Languages: Proficiency in English and Portuguese.

• Citizenship:You are a citizen of one of our . Must be eligible to work in job Brazil without the need for sponsorship.
• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• Consultant: National consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
