The salary for this position corresponds to Grade P02, Step 1, in accordance with Staff Rule 103.3 Initial Salary: 
(a) A staff member on initial appointment shall be placed in the first step of the grade of post, without exemption. 
(b) This rule does not apply to a staff member who is already employed by the General Secretariat and is selected, promoted, demoted, reassigned, or otherwise transferred to a different post. In such cases, salary shall be determined in accordance with the applicable provisions of these Staff Rules.
                
                    
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is an analytical type, professional position with elements of coordination of various aspects of a project and/or activities in the fulfillment of a departmental mission, and is assigned all or part of the following responsibilities (NOTE: these responsibilities and expected results are standardized, and are not necessarily performed by all):

1.    Research, compile and synthesize information in support of the project development and strengthening of relations with Member States, key institutions and organizations, and dialogue promotion, including but not limited to: coordinating or overseeing the organization of meetings, conferences, presentations, events and seminars; following-up on the development of joint activities at the local and regional levels, and networking activities.
2.    Analyze related trends and events affecting the situation in the hemisphere, recommending actions, drafting talking points and speeches, and participating in the elaboration and reviewing of reports and publications on applicable subject matters, and their dissemination among scholars, practitioners and other interested parties.
3.    Make proposals for, and participate in, the formulation and execution of projects, activities and initiatives for the organization of fact-finding, needs assessment, and advisory services to countries and regions.  
4.    Monitor the execution and accounts of project-specific activities, processing and following-up on administrative and financial actions in liaison with appropriate staff members, including but not limited to hiring human resources, purchasing equipment and supplies, travel, etc.
5.    Support and participate in various department-specific initiatives and dialogue promotion as related to the area of work, including drafting, reviewing and editing for consistency and language, correspondence, reports, cooperation agreements, proposals and joint proposals, budgets, financial reports, work plans, and documents and publications, 
6.    Manage, update and validate databases containing information on the activities of the area of work, including all aspects of project-specific activities, producing reports and summaries on a regular or ad hoc basis and preparing analysis on regional issues. 
7.    Provide support in the planning, fundraising, implementation and evaluation of missions, programs, projects and activities at the Headquarters and in the field, including participating in training seminars and other programs.  
8.    Perform other related duties as assigned, including replacing and backstopping for others.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  
Essential: First University Degree (Bachelor’s) in Political Science, Law, International Relations, Public Management, Social Sciences or related fields and 4 years of experience at the national and/or international level OR Advanced University Degree (Master’s) in one of the fields listed above and 2 years of relevant experience.

Desirable: Experience or knowledge of the OAS mandate and priorities of the Inter-American agenda and system.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to effectively work using Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other applications such as Oracle, Visio, Access, Share Point) and software applicable to the area of work.

LANGUAGES:
Essential – Proficient in at least two of the following languages: English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish (read, write and communicate). The lack of proficiency in a second language should not be grounds for elimination during the recruitment and selection process.  

Desirable – Working knowledge of other two OAS official languages.


Personal Competencies: Client Orientation, Knowledge Sharing, Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills. Ability to clearly communicate in the languages required for the post.

Professional Category: Remuneration = Basic Salary + Post Adjustment

- US citizens tax reimbursement: US Citizens are reimbursed for most taxes paid on OAS remuneration.  

- Paid Annual Leave: 21 days from 1st year.  Increase to 30 days within 5 years.  

- Sick Leave and Parental Leave.

- Health Insurance: OAS pays 2/3 of premium.

- Pension and Savings Plans: In addition to salary, OAS contributes 14% of pensionable remuneration to a Retirement and Pension Plan. Staff contribute 7%.

- Additional benefits (dependent on contract type): Mobilization allowance, repatriation grant, home leave travel, dependency allowance, life insurance.
