The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of UNEP's Industry and Economy Division is to support decision makers in government and engage with industry and the finance sector to use strong scientific evidence to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production including circular economy, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making industry and environment policies mutually supportive. The Division promotes the development and adoption of policies, technologies, economic instruments, investment decisions, business practices and other efforts which enables to address the environmental challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation, and pollution while advancing economic and social objectives. See (http://www.unep.org). The position is located in the Industry Innovation Branch of the Industry and Economy Division in the Nairobi Duty Station. Under the direct supervision by the Administrative Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for following functions:

Responsibilities

In close collaboration with the wider UNEP FI Secretariat, implement UNEP Fl's strategy to mainstream nature (land, oceans, coastal areas, inland waters) in financial institutions and contribute to enabling financial institutions to support implementation UN intergovernmental agreements while contributing to overall industry change and transformation. Support resource mobilization for nature finance to support GBF goals in coordination with the UNEP and CBD programmes of work, and other relevant UN agencies. Support implementation of UNEP FI and UNEP governance processes for the nature work programme. Continually refresh the nature theme strategy under the guidance of the thematic advisory group. Oversee the development, implementation and communication on the nature work programme integrated into UNEP FI processes. Ensure the integrity and quality of the outputs and oversee the delivery of guidance and resources for the financial sector in line with UNEP FI objectives, contributing to the continuous improvement of UNEP FI delivery across themes and industries. Contribute to the development of guidance for PRB and PSI implementation in collaboration with UNEP Fl's Banking and Insurance Teams. Oversee nature-related content /materials to support awareness raising and capacity building/technical assistance on nature for UNEP FI's membership in coordination with the Regional Coordination Team. Lead and manage UNEP FI's Nature Team. In this role: Establish and evolve the Nature Team's structure for effective delivery of strategy and work plans to contribute to institutional level and systems change. Develop an agile process to ensure ongoing learning and innovation. Manage the Nature budget and nature-specific resources in line with UNEP FI budget, admin and planning processes. Provide the HR planning and performance management for the Nature Team. Coordinate with admin and communications colleagues to ensure operational consistency and alignment with UN rules, procedures, processes in project planning and delivery and adherence to internal deadlines. Support science-based nature-related policy and regulatory engagement to align public and private finance with goals under Multilateral Environmental Agreements including the CBD GBF. Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics combined with one of the following: environment, sustainable development or a related field. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, nature, environment, sustainable development or related area is required. Experiences in connecting financial work with environmental and social considerations are desirable. Skills in developing work programs for a variety of private or public stakeholders are desirable. A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

The appointment against this position is limited to the United Nations Environment Programme. Appointment against this post is for an initial period of one (1) year and may be subject to extension. External candidate selected for this position will be granted a fixed-term appointment limited ("FTAlimited") in accordance with section 2.2 (b) of administrative instruction ST/AI/2013/1 on Administration of fixed-term appointments.
