The consultancy services will strengthen the Beyond Lab’s communication of the value provided by the Lab, thereby fundamentally supporting its securing of resources. The consultancy will provide the Lab with strategic communications and storytelling, supporting the development of clear and compelling narratives around the Lab’s work; strengthen the quality and consistency of communications products across its initiatives; and contribute to creative communications and outreach approaches that engage diverse audiences and inspire action around the Beyond Lab’s work on sustainable development, future generations, and social innovation. The consultancy will also improve operational efficiencies and streamline workflows across the team, strengthen internal communications coordination across the Lab’s portfolio and support the translation of complex ideas, research and insights into accessible and engaging communications products.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultancy services are for the Beyond Lab, located in the Office of the Director-General, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The selected consultant is expected to start on 1 October 2026, until 31 December 2026 initially. Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Beyond Lab, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 1. Strategic communications, positioning and translation • Strengthen the Beyond Lab’s overall brand strategy and positioning, driving brand expression, communications strategy and execution, and clear and coherent narratives across its portfolio, partnerships and external engagements • Translate its work into clear, compelling and audience-specific narratives and impact stories • Develop strategic messaging around the Beyond Lab’s key areas of work on policy innovation at the intersection of intergenerational impact and participatory policy making, new economy and Beyond GDP, anticipatory governance and emerging technology, behavioral and affective sciences, public-sector innovation, multilateral reform and the future of international cooperation, and connect them to relevant global policy processes • Develop communications products that combine evidence, results and co-being centered experience, including key messages, presentations, briefing materials, web and social media content, stories and other strategic communications assets. 2. Audience engagement, campaigns and outreach • Support communications, advocacy and outreach activities across the Beyond Lab’s programmes of work, identifying priority audiences, communications objectives, appropriate channels and opportunities for engagement. • Develop tailored messaging and content for Member States, UN entities and other international organization partners, civil society, youth, academia, foundations, private-sector actors and other strategic partners. • Support communications around policy processes, events, workshops, launches and major convenings, including speaker messaging, presentations, promotional materials and follow-up communications. • Identify creative formats, partnerships, media opportunities and channels that can broaden the reach of the Beyond Lab’s work and strengthen engagement with existing and new audiences. 3. Donor, partnership and resource mobilization strategy • Provide strategic communications support to the Beyond Lab’s donor engagement, partnership development and resource mobilization efforts. • Translate the Beyond Lab’s work into compelling investment and partnership narratives that communicate its distinctive value, results, potential for scale and relevance to prospective funders and partners. • Develop and adapt donor- and partner-facing materials, including investment cases, concept notes, funding briefs, pitch decks, presentations, key messages, impact stories and other tailored communications products. • Support preparation for donor and partner engagements by developing audience-specific narratives, talking points, briefing materials and follow-up communications. • Strengthen the communication of evidence, results and lessons learned to support funding propositions, demonstrate impact and articulate opportunities for scaling, adaptation and collaboration. 4. Knowledge translation, coordination and strategic advisory support • Work closely with programme focal points to translate research, policy analysis, tools, results and findings from across the Beyond Lab portfolio into clear, accessible and audience-specific communication products. • Coordinate communications priorities across the portfolio and provide strategic and hands-on support to flagship initiatives, events, partnerships and emerging priorities. • Support the Beyond Lab team and partners in strengthening key messages and ensuring coherent communication of major ideas, results and lessons across initiatives and external engagements. • Provide ongoing advice on communications opportunities, stakeholder positioning and narrative development, while helping ensure consistency in the Beyond Lab’s messaging, branding, visual identity and overall external positioning.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, marketing, environmental management, social and behavioral science, international relations/political science, or a related field is required or two year of relevant experience in the relevant field may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in strategic communications, brand strategy, audience marketing, storytelling, communications research or a related field is required. xperience in developing communications strategies and translating complex ideas, research or technical information into clear and compelling content for diverse audiences is desirable. Experience in audience research, communications campaigns, storytelling, event production, content development and/or facilitation of workshops or collaborative processes is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and French are required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
