Job Purpose

The Event Management Intern will work closely with the GICHD NDM-UN focal point to support the organization and delivery of the 30th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and UN Advisers (NDM-UN30). The internship will begin 1st of January 2027 till end of June 2027.

NDM-UN is the mine action sector’s leading annual global gathering. It brings together 800-900 directors of national mine action authorities and representatives from across the wider mine action community, including donors, United Nations entities, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and academia. 

The meeting is co-organised and co-hosted by the GICHD and the United Nations and takes place at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG) from 20-22 April 2027.

Key responsibilities 

Working under the guidance of the GICHD NDM-UN focal point, the intern will support the planning, organization and delivery of NDM-UN30. Responsibilities will include: 

  1. Supporting the development and management of the meeting programme, including coordination of plenary sessions, side events, workshops, and other activities. 
  2. Liaising with session organizers and partner organizations to support their preparation and participation in the meeting. 
  3. Assisting with logistical preparations, including coordination with the conference venue and service providers on meeting rooms, catering, interpretation, audiovisual requirements and other conference services. 
  4. Preparing and updating meeting materials, including agendas, participant information, briefing documents, schedules, and internal planning tools. 
  5. Maintaining and updating the NDM-UN website with programme and other relevant information. 
  6. Supporting communications related to NDM-UN30, in coordination with relevant GICHD colleagues. 
  7. Providing on-site support during the meeting. 
  8. Supporting post-meeting activities, including participant feedback, documentation, reporting, lessons learned and follow-up with partners and service providers. 
  9. Carrying out other administrative and organizational tasks related to NDM-UN30 as required. 
  10. After the NDM-UN meeting, support the IMAS Secretariat in the management of the international mine action standards. 

Qualifications

 Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or master's programme.

GICHD provides the following monthly allowances:

  • Bachelor's level interns: CHF 1,500 gross per month
  • Master's level interns: CHF 2,500 gross per month

Knowledge, skills and competencies 

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral
  • Excellent project management, planning and organizational skills 
  • Ability to coordinate simultaneous activities/projects 
  • Effective writing and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural settings with a wide range of stakeholders
