Organizational Setting

The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.

The Waste Technology Section (WTS) assists Member States in developing comprehensive radioactive waste management programmes including management of disused sealed radioactive sources. Efforts are focused on the elaboration and implementation of comprehensive and integrated radioactive waste management (RWM) policies and strategies, the development of RWM infrastructure, the promotion of good practices for sustainable, safe and cost-effective RWM and facilitating access to current scientific and technological developments. Given the widespread nature of RWM challenges, the Section works closely with numerous units in the IAEA and relevant international organizations.



Main Purpose

The consultant will provide technical expertise and input for the preparation, coordination, and execution of activities associated with the International Conference on Advancement in Radioactive Waste Management: Innovation for a Sustainable Future (CN-357), scheduled for 11-15 October 2027.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Develop and finalize the comprehensive conference programme in close coordination with the Scientific Secretaries and the Conference Technical Committee, ensuring the effective integration and delivery of technical sessions, side events, exhibitions, and the Young Professionals Event.

  • Manage registration and submission of abstracts and papers of external and internal participants using the INDICO system.

  • Review submitted abstracts and assigned to appropriate tracks. This include assessing the scientific quality, relevance, and originality of submissions.

  • Facilitate the assessment and selection for either oral or poster presentations including preparation of analysis to inform decision on acceptance.

  • Facilitate authors in formatting, conduct editing and publish the papers through the IAEA Conference App.

  • Assist in the selection process of grant recipients.

During the Conference

  • Provide technical input to the development of conference outcomes, recommendations, and technical outputs. This includes assisting in formulating sessions summaries, introductory and closing statements and main conclusions from sessions-leaders and Conference Chairperson.

  • Liaise with authors for keeping updated the reception of oral presentations & posters during the event to be posted on the IAEA Conference App.

  • Prepare summaries and reports in a timely manner


After the Conference

  • Develop initial draft of the IAEA Conference Proceedings

  • Provide statistical analysis for reporting purpose

  • Provide high level summary and key highlights of the Conference

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree (bachelor) in engineering, natural or environmental sciences, information or data sciences, or another technical, scientific, analytical or interdisciplinary field relevant to the assignment.

  • Minimum of two years work experience in event management, conference planning and preparation.

  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

  • Proficiency in IT.

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 150, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
