About this position
We are looking for a strategic, creative and versatile Communications Consultant. As a Communications Consultant, you will support the strategic positioning and visibility of the IDB as a trusted partner for sustainable development, contributing to the strategic external communication of institutional priorities, regional programs, partnerships, operations and knowledge products across the Country Offices of Jamaica and The Bahamas.
You will work in the Jamaica and The Bahamas Country Offices, part of the Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration (VPC) and the Country Department Caribbean Group. This team is responsible for supporting the strategic external communication of institutional priorities, regional programs, partnerships, operations and knowledge products, while engaging effectively with diverse IDB stakeholders and supporting communications efforts across the entire IDB Group.
What you’ll do
- Provide strategic communications advice to Country Office leadership, ensuring alignment with IDB Group priorities, policies, and approval processes.
- Develop and implement annual communications and visibility plans that support institutional, regional, and country-level objectives.
- Design and execute communication strategies to showcase the development impact of IDB operations, partnerships, and knowledge products.
- Support communications risk and crisis management efforts in coordination with regional and institutional communications teams.
- Lead communications planning for high-profile events, ensuring compliance with branding, messaging, and protocol standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media, government, private sector, civil society, donors, and opinion leaders.
- Manage media relations activities, including outreach, interviews, press materials, and reputation monitoring.
- Develop, edit, and oversee the production of communications content across multiple channels, including digital, social media, web, and print.
- Ensure compliance with IDB Group brand and visual identity standards across all communications materials.
- Monitor communications performance, prepare analytical reports, and provide recommendations to strengthen outreach and engagement efforts.
What you'll need
- Education: A Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field is required. A combination of a Bachelor’s degree and an additional two years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
- Experience:At least 5 years of professional experience in strategic communications, development communications, public relations or social media/online community built up. This experience should ideally be within a media outlet, strategic communications agency, digital content company, private foundation or the communication office of international organizations. Fully proficient in online photography/videography with proven track record in digital content creation. Demonstrated professional experience working in Jamaica and with Caribbean countries is highly desirable. A strong understanding of the local cultural environment and diplomatic protocol would be a significant asset.
- Languages: Proficiency in English, spoken written is required.
Requirements
Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our . Must be eligible to work in Bahamas or Jamaica without the need for sponsorship.
Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
