Overview of position

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator and the technical supervision of the Gender Specialist (Safeguarding) and Programme Officer (Community Engagement and Accountability), the incumbent will support field-level implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of gender mainstreaming, gender inclusion, and Accountability to Affected Populations interventions in target communities.

Role objectives

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities.

  • Compile, summarise, analyse, and present information/data on specific project topics, highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.

  • Monitor budget implementation and propose adjustments as necessary.  

  • Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organisational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, follow-up on administrative actions, etc.

  • Draft status reports, identify shortfalls, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest corrective measures to address delivery gaps.

  • Draft correspondence on project issues, prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation.

  • Organise meetings, workshops and training sessions, prepare training materials and participate in the delivering of capacity building workshops.

  • Respond to complex information requests and inquiries. Set up and maintain files/records.

  • Participate in meetings and conferences. Maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation (UN) agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project. 

  • Monitor work of implementing partners and report any non-compliance to the supervisor.

  • Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.

  • Provides guidance/training and assist in coordinating and monitoring work of other staff in the unit. May supervise other staff as assigned.

  • Perform such other relevant duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Social Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience; or,

  • School diploma with six years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organisations;

  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,

  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organisations, non-government or government institutions/organisation in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

  • Experience in gender, inclusion, women-based planning, and Accountability to Affected Population (AAP), community engagement, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and social cohesion.

Skills:

  • Good knowledge of migration-related subject areas relevant to the work of our client.

  • Good knowledge of project implementation, monitoring, and basic project-cycle processes.

  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder liaison, community engagement, problem solving analysis.

  • Knowledge of disaster risk reduction and climate action thematic areas will be of advantage.

  • Experience of mainstreaming gender and conducting gender analysis

  • Experience of implementing community engagement activities promoting gender and inclusion

  • Experience supporting our client’s participation in inter-agency coordination meetings.

  • Knowledge of advocacy and stakeholder engagement will be of advantage.

  • Excellent computer skills, especially in MS Office remote working applications such as MS Word, MS Teams, MS SharePoint, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize assigned work, follow guidance, show initiative, and deliver quality results within established timelines.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong coordination and organizational skills.

Languages:

  • For this position, Fluency in English, and Dari or Pashto is required (oral and written).
