The Communications Department (COM) is the IMF’s center for strategic communication. It develops and coordinates the IMF’s external and internal communications strategy, shapes key messages, advises IMF Management and staff on how best to convey those messages, and monitors and responds to what is being said and written about the institution and its activities.
COM’s Publishing Division (COMPD) produces a wide range of publications, manages the IMF’s public website (IMF.org) and digital online library (eLibrary.IMF.org), and oversees marketing and distribution of IMF metadata and content through various digital platforms and scholarly and commercial publishing channels. COMPD strives to ensure that Fund publications and digital content are aligned with strategic institutional priorities and support the Fund’s larger outreach efforts. Working closely with staff in other departments, the division helps to promote knowledge sharing with both internal and external audiences, including the preparation, release, and supporting outreach of publications and online content under tight deadlines. COMPD also tracks distribution and use of IMF publications and online content in various digital and print formats.
Duties and Responsibilities
COMPD is seeking a technology-agile publishing professional to work on the division’s agenda to modernize the IMF’s publishing practices. This includes identifying, evaluating, testing, and deploying emerging technologies and innovative publishing solutions to improve workflow efficiency, enhance accessibility, and support the continuous evolutions for the Fund’s publishing program. This requires strong technical and digital skills, sound judgment, and the ability to translate technological developments into practical solutions that improve publishing outcomes.
The selected candidate will also serve as Editor of the Annual Report of the Executive Board, overseeing its development, review, production, and publication. In this capacity, the selected candidate will coordinate a complex, institution-wide process involving departmental review, management clearances, Office of the Managing Director (OMD) review, and Executive Board Evaluation Committee review and approval. The role requires excellent editorial and project management skills, strong organization skills, and the capacity to work effectively with multiple stakeholders across the institution.
The successful candidate will:
Modernization, technology, and innovation
- Implement AI-assisted workflows to improve efficiency in all phases of the publication process, including content development, review, editing, production, translation, publication, dissemination and archiving.
- Develop guidance, reusable prompt libraries, and work with colleagues to strengthen digital publishing capabilities and knowledge sharing across the division.
- Identify opportunities to use emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to support editorial review, content preparation, accessibility, translation support, metadata creation, and publication production.
- Evaluate, test and implement new publishing tools and technologies, with particular emphasis on taxonomy and generative engine optimization.
- Monitor developments in publishing, AI and communications technologies and recommend practical applications for COMPD's publications portfolio.
- Support day-to-day digital publishing tasks as required.
Annual Report Editor and Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as editor and project manager for the IMF Annual Report of the Executive Board, overseeing all phases of content development, review, production, publication and dissemination.
- Work closely with the Executive Board Evaluation Committee, COM management, speechwriters, and departmental counterparts to develop and refine content and key messages.
- Manage departmental review processes and support management, OMD, Evaluation Committee, and Executive Board clearance procedures.
- Oversee editorial quality assurance including, copyediting, proofreading, fact-checking, accessibility reviews, and quality-control processes, and ensure any AI- generated content is evaluated for accuracy, quality, and compliance.
- Coordinate design, translation, digital publishing, printing, and vendor-delivery activities.
- Monitor project budgets, contracts, and production expenditures associated with assigned projects.
- Serve as editor, project manager, or publishing advisor for selected flagships, departmental, and institutional publications.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in Communications, International Relations, Languages, or a related field; or a university degree, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience; or a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience at grade A08, or equivalent, is required. In addition, the candidate should possess:
Technical Skills and Experience
- Professional experience in emerging technologies related to editing, publishing, communications, knowledge management, or related fields.
- Experience using AI-enabled or other digital publishing tools.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation chatbot design and deployment.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex editorial, publishing, or communications projects.
- Strong experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and balancing competing priorities.
- Experience working with publication-production processes, editorial workflows, and quality control procedures.
- Familiarity with digital publishing platforms, content-management systems, and publication-production technologies.
- Possess a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Experience in an international organization, multilateral institution, government agency, academic publishing environment, or similar organization is desirable.

A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their open-ended status. If the selected candidate is a contractual employee, they will be offered a Term staff appointment. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
