Original infographics and communications assets are prepared on the Integrated programme (IP) on eliminating hazardous chemicals from supply chains. Global Coordination Project reports and meeting reports of the IP are prepared with full layout, graphic design figures or infographics developed. Design and layout of presentations, summary documents, case studies and infographics to better communicate and summarize key messages and results from Textiles Unit activities. “Practical guide for mercury waste management in the healthcare sector” is prepared with full layout, graphic design figures or infographics developed.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The Chemicals Science and Policy Unit (CSPU) of the Chemicals and Health Branch promotes scientific approaches and knowledge for the sound management of chemicals including through implementation of Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects. CSPU gathers, compiles and analyses state of the art information and data, including through monitoring activities, inventories and assessments, to allow policymakers to make informed decisions on the sound management of chemicals and waste. The Unit executes projects and covers topics related to persistent organic pollutants and mercury, among others. The Unit also addresses high impact sectors and the Sustainable Development Goals, among others. The Textiles Unit, part of the Industry Innovation Branch, implements the UNEP Textile Initiative, which provides strategic leadership and encourages sector-wide collaboration to accelerate a just transition towards a sustainable and circular textile value chain. UNEP’s work includes supporting and informing governments, such as through its Global Textile Policy Dialogues, assisting industry, particularly SMEs in developing countries, in shifting towards circular business models, scaling the use of industry standards for circularity, eliminating hazardous chemicals, while adopting a life cycle approach and addressing overproduction and overconsumption to redefine the fashion industry’s economic model. Underpinning all of this is support for evidence-based decision making through its thought leadership reports. UNEP is leading, among others, the GEF-8 Integrated Programme (IP) titled “Eliminating hazardous chemicals from supply chains”, the InTex Programme and "Phasing out mercury measuring devices in healthcare". Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Chemicals and Health Branch, Industry and Economy Division, and the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, Science and Policy Unit, Chemicals and Health Branch, the tasks and responsibilities of the Consultant will be as follows: • Creation of visual concepts and layout templates. • Final layout of the documents completed with changes from the report editors and internal reviews. • Creation of infographics and communications assets, including presentations. • All deliverables in pdf and raw files must be submitted and be adaptable for social media. • Layout, design, cover page and figures for the State of Science technical report and synthesis report on EDCs • Layout and graphic design for the “Practical guide for mercury waste management in the healthcare sector” • Update the communication and branding guidelines for relevant programmes (e.g. InTex). In addition, the Consultant will provide further support as required and requested by the Programme Management Officer.

Education: Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in a field related to graphic design. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying' experience (2 additional years) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: At least 7 years of relevant professional work experience. Experience working in/with UN agencies or with Minamata Convention issues is an advantage. Experience working on chemicals and waste management topics is desirable. Special skills/knowledge: Relevant professional graphic design/layout software and technical skills.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
