The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 100 countries and has 18,000 staff worldwide. In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. Over 700 team members work across the county in various professional fields.

ABOUT THE JOB

The ICRC Staff Health Unit seeks a competent Staff Health Officer to join our team in Odesa. The Staff Health Officer in close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Staff Health Officer will mainly be responsible for implementation of the ICRC Staff Health Strategy in Odesa Sub Delegation and other ICRC sites as per need for the benefit of the ICRC staff. The Staff Health Officer promotes and supports the physical and mental well-being of all ICRC staff by ensuring access to quality healthcare, preventive measures, and psychosocial support.

Start date: As soon as possible

NOTE: This position is a temporary maternity leave replacement, with an expected duration subject to the return date of the incumbent. The contract will be issued on a fixed-term basis accordingly.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct Staff Health briefings for all newly hired ICRC staff, ensuring awareness of staff health policies and services
  • Assess and monitor living conditions across all sites to promote general hygiene, safety, and preventive health practices
  • Evaluate local medical facilities and establish a reliable referral network for staff healthcare
  • Provide confidential support and medical advice to ICRC staff regarding their health and well-being
  • Coordinate medical evacuations and ensure appropriate care during transport, in collaboration with the Staff Health Unit in Kyiv
  • Implement and oversee staff health policies and procedures across offices in Kyiv and in Lviv
  • Promote mental well-being by implementing the ICRC stress policy and organizing peer support following critical incidents
  • Collect and analyze staff health data to identify trends and risks, contributing to continuous improvement of health services

ABOUT YOU

To be successful as Staff Health Officer in the Staff Health Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics: 

    • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
    • Master’s degree in medicine (Medical Doctor)
    • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
    • Experience in mental health care and stress management
    • Practical experience with medical evacuation and patient transportation
    • Knowledge of tropical health and public health systems
    • Strong adherence to medical ethics, professional standards, and strict confidentiality
    • Professional fluency in English and Ukrainian (both written and spoken)
    • Computer literate, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
    • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
    • Rigorous and precise analytical skills
    • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
    • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
    • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
