The GGGI internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Pacific Regional Electrification Programme (Pac-REP), based at the Pacific Regional Office in  Suva, Fiji. The programme supports participating Pacific Island countries to strengthen the enabling environment for rural electrification, renewable energy, and energy efficiency and to prepare and implement priority clean energy investments.

Working under the guidance of the Pacific Regional Implementation Officer and technical team, the intern will contribute to technical research, analysis, documentation and coordination associated with renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity access and related policy and investment activities. This opportunity is particularly suited to a student or recent graduate in electrical engineering, renewable energy engineering, energy systems or a closely related discipline who wishes to gain practical experience in regional clean energy programming.

The assignment will include the followings but not limited to:

  • Support the review and organization of technical information on renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity networks, rural electrification and energy access in participating Pacific Island Countries.
  • Support the preparation of technical outputs, including briefing materials, presentations and technical report sections.
  • Undertake desk research and summarize relevant national energy policies, regulations, grid codes, utility requirements, sector plans and good practices applicable to programme activities.
  • Compile, clean and maintain technical data, country information, project trackers and records of technical decisions and follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to communications activities for the program as designated by the supervisor.
  • Support preparations for country consultations, technical meetings, workshops and missions, including background research, presentation materials, minutes and action tracking.
  • Contribute to programme monitoring and reporting by collecting information on technical progress, outputs, risks and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with programme colleagues and, where requested, government, utility, consultant and development partner counterparts in a professional and culturally respectful manner.
  • Carry out other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor that contribute to the delivery of EU Pac-REP.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Possess an excellent command of English.

 

QUALIFICATION
  • Academic background in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, renewable energy engineering, energy systems, mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Foundational understanding of renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, electrical systems, power generation and distribution, or rural electrification.
  • Good analytical, research, organizational and problem-solving skills, with close attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical audiences; familiarity with engineering drawings, system specifications, energy data or basic electrical calculations is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, energy access, climate action and sustainable development in the Pacific region.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, manage assigned tasks responsibly and operate respectfully in a multicultural environment.

 

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
