Full Stack Web Developer

The objective of the Individual Contractor (IC) is to support the development, maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of DSDSD’s digital platforms, dashboards, and web applications. The IC will contribute to web application development, frontend implementation, data visualization features, ASP.NET Core environments, integrations, testing, troubleshooting, and operational support activities across assigned systems and digital initiatives, including platform upgrades and modernization efforts. The IC will also support implementation, deployment, user acceptance testing, and technical documentation activities while ensuring alignment with UN established standards for web development, accessibility, security, and operational sustainability.

Background: This position is located in the Decision-Support and Data Science Division (DSDSD). The Division is part of ESCWA’s broader modernization and innovation efforts, providing advanced analytics and decision-support services within ESCWA, other UN entities, and Member States. Aligned with the UN 2.0 agenda, DSDSD develops and maintains digital platforms, data portals, dashboards, and operational systems that support evidence-based policymaking, organizational efficiency, and digital transformation initiatives across the region. Its software development activities include responsive web applications, frontend interfaces, data visualization platforms, and API integrations. As part of ongoing modernization and operational sustainability efforts, DSDSD requires continued support to maintain, enhance, and upgrade existing digital platforms while ensuring usability, accessibility, interoperability, and alignment with evolving UN ICT standards and operational requirements. Duties and responsibilities: The Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: - Develop websites and applications as per the UNICT strategy and ESCWA’s needs applying UX/UI concepts and principles, UN established standards for web design, technologies, and tools; and following security and data protection schemes; - Maintain, upgrades, and enhance existing websites and applications and integration to interrelated systems and program elements; - Organize and perform unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test bases; assists users in accepting testing; - Conduct research on new technologies as requested, keeps abreast of developments in the fields; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies; - Support data visualization and data analytics initiatives; - Prepare technical and user documentation for products, as well as training materials and conduct technical presentations; - Maintain functional specifications and technical documentation for websites, applications, and related procedures developed and/or modified; - Provide operational support for deployed websites and applications, including version management, deployment, troubleshooting, and recovery activities; - Support user onboarding and knowledge-sharing activities related to completed products and implemented solutions; - Performs other related tasks as required by UN ICT or ESCWA strategy

A minimum high school diploma with a certification or degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the computer software industry as an ASP.NET Core developer working with front-end languages and libraries (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), back-end languages (C#), SQL Server, and open-source data visualization libraries like Apache ECharts along with competency in C# and .NET Core is required. Knowledge in database design, and development using MS SQL Relational Database is required. At least 1 year of experience with version control such as GIT is required. Familiarity with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) is desirable. Familiarity with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required and fluency in Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
