Background

Within UNDP’s Bureau for Management Services (BMS), the Office of Human Resources (OHR), is the Management Consulting Team (MCT), which is constituted of a group of management consulting practitioners available on request to support UNDP offices and units worldwide to improve strategic and organizational effectiveness in line with UNDP’s Strategic Plan and corporate investments in organizational effectiveness and agility. This group is anchored by a core team of management advisors and consultants based in Bonn, who coordinate and deliver management consulting services globally in a participatory manner

Position Purpose

Under the guidance and supervision of the Chief of the Management Consulting Team (MCT), the Management Data Analyst is expected to contribute to support overall organizational effectiveness by making substantive contributions to MCT advisory engagements with internal and external stakeholders, including country offices and headquarters units. The Management Data Analyst undertakes research, data collection, and data analysis; develops data analysis tools and applications; manages databases and data platforms; supports internal coordination and knowledge management; and participates in all MCT engagements using a client, quality, and results-oriented approach. The Management Data Analyst works in close collaboration with the team members in developing content and in the delivery of organizational effectiveness advisory services.

Therefore, UNDP personnel are expected to work across issues, units, functions, teams and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Undertake research, data collection, and analysis in support of UNDP’s organizational effectiveness focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Undertake research, data collection, and analysis related to organizational performance, organizational effectiveness, and business process reviews;
  • Undertake end-to-end data analysis workflows from data collection, data wrangling, data exploration, data modelling, data analysis, data communication, and visualization;
  • Create and maintain databases, dashboards, and data management workflows in coordination with BMS/ITM as applicable;
  • Develop methodologies, tools, and software applications related to data analysis and organizational performance;
  • Make continuous improvements to organizational performance analytics; and
  • Support forward-looking analysis on organizational performance to highlight opportunities for MCT engagements.

2. Participate in client advisory engagements and make contributions in support of business transformation engagements focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Undertake research, data collection, analysis and visualization of information from diverse sources in support of MCT client engagements, including financial modelling and statistical analysis;
  • Support development of technical proposals, business cases, and implementation plans/roadmaps;
  • Support preparation for and participate in interviews, focus groups and workshops as required;
  • Support drafting of written outputs and end-of-engagement reports, as required;
  • Follow up with engagement clients on recommendations, as required; and
  • Proactively seek, analyze, and apply data sets relevant for MCT engagements.

3. Support data/knowledge management and coordination:

  • Maintain MCT’s data and knowledge platforms, including dashboards;
  • Develop and maintain MCT’s codebase, database, and data management tools and workflows
  • Contribute to the development of templates and standard operating procedures;
  • Perform administrative support functions to ensure smooth operations; and
  • Support internal coordination, communication, and knowledge management efforts.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Sciences, Business Administration, or related fields, is required, or
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in the above-mentioned areas with an additional 2 years of relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of the master’s degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years with a Master’s degree or four (4) years with a Bachelor’s degree of progressively relevant work experience in research, data collection, analysis, and supporting business transformation engagements is required;
  • Knowledge and experience of data science/analytics methodologies and approaches is required;
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, data modelling, statistical analysis and visualization tools required (e.g. SQL, R, Power BI) is required;
  • Demonstrated experience in database and cloud computing platforms required (e.g. Azure, Fabric) is desirable;
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in programming languages, libraries and frameworks for use in data science/analytics (e.g. Python, D3.js, DAX) is required;
  • Knowledge of practical applications of predictive analytics and generative AI desirable, including experience assessing and validating AI-generated outputs to ensure accuracy, relevance, and consistency;
  • Experience in performance improvement, business process reengineering, organizational effectiveness/organization development, process consultation, or management consulting is a distinct advantage;
  • Exposure to international development work is an advantage. Knowledge of the UN/UNDP system is desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
