Mission and objectives
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Through the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok and a number of country and multi-country offices as well as programme presences across the region, UN Women builds on a long history of support to governments, civil society and other actors to promote gender equality and empower all women and girls. We stand behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas: addressing gender perspectives in intergovernmental processes; women’s political participation and leadership; enhancing women’s economic empowerment; ending violence against women and girls; and promoting women’s participation in peace and security and humanitarian action.

Context
Ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) is a regional and global priority for UN Women. In Asia and the Pacific, high levels of violence persist, driven by gender inequality, harmful social norms, and structural discrimination. UN Women’s EVAW work in the region combines prevention and response approaches, evidence-based programming, advocacy, and multi-stakeholder coordination to advance survivor-centred, gender-transformative solutions.
Within this context, the UN Associate Volunteer will support communications and advocacy efforts of the EVAW team at the regional level. The assignment will contribute to the visibility and outreach of key regional initiatives, including the UNiTE Campaign to End Violence against Women, the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum 2026, the UN Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention in Southeast Asia (funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), and the Protection of the Rights of Women and Children in Labour Migration (PROTECT) Project (funded by the European Union).
The assignment is designed as a learning-focused opportunity for an undergraduate student, providing exposure to UN communications, advocacy, and coordination processes in a regional setting.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Ending violence against women and girls (EVAW) Communications and Coordination Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks :
Communications and Advocacy Support :
• Support the development and adaptation of communications materials related to Ending Violence against Women (EVAW), including social media content, web content, briefs, and visual assets, in line with UN Women branding and editorial guidelines.
• Assist in the preparation of advocacy and outreach materials for regional campaigns, events, and commemorations, including the UNiTE Campaign.
• Support donor visibility requirements for EVAW initiatives, including the UN Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention in Southeast Asia and the PROTECT Project, under guidance from the supervisor.
• Support event planning and coordination, including for the global SVRI Forum in October 2026 in Bangkok, coordinating session and event preparations, communications, and materials with organizers and speakers. Support documentation and communication of Forum activities.
Content Creation and Digital Support :
• Assist with basic graphic design tasks, including the preparation of visuals, quote cards, and simple infographics using standard design tools.
• Support graphic design, photography and/or video production activities for communications purposes, including basic editing, captioning, and asset organisation.
• Support the organisation and archiving of communications assets and materials.
Coordination and Youth Engagement :
• Support coordination of EVAW-related activities and meetings at the regional level, including scheduling, preparation of agendas, and drafting meeting notes.
• Assist with youth engagement-related activities linked to EVAW advocacy, including documentation of youth-focused initiatives and support to outreach efforts where relevant.
Monitoring, Documentation, and Learning :
• Assist in tracking communications outputs and basic performance metrics (e.g. reach, engagement) for reporting and learning purposes.
• Support knowledge management by compiling and organising communications resources, background materials, and reference documents.
