The The Industry Engagement Consultant – Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0)] consultant will develop and deliver outputs to advance the growth and external positioning of IMEO´s industry engagement initiatives, with a focus on OGMP 2.0, which involves designing and implementing stakeholder engagement approaches, recruiting oil and gas companies to join the initiative, strengthening investor and civil society engagement, promoting related MRV work, and producing materials to support these objectives.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority setting the global environmental agenda and advocating for environmental action across the UN system.  UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is a data-driven initiative accelerating reductions in methane emissions, a major contributor to climate change. IMEO provides open, reliable and actionable data to support emissions reductions aligned with the Paris Agreement. To do this, IMEO is harnessing a methane data revolution under way thanks to rapidly advancing technology and momentum for methane action. IMEO collects, integrates, and reconciles data from methane-detecting satellites, scientific measurement studies, rigorous industry reporting through the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), and national emissions inventories. These initiatives are game-changers for climate action – and as a core implementing partner of the Global Methane Pledge, IMEO is shaping the future of methane mitigation. IMEO’s focus on transparency has been most successful with the Oil and Gas Methane Programme OGMP 2.0. Now in its 6th year, with over 160 member companies, IMEO seeks to deepen engagement with existing industry members and grow the partnership with the recruitment of new members. The consultant will support OGMP’s external engagement, market development, and communications work. Expected tasks and responsibilities include : Develop and support implementation of IMEO engagement strategies, with a focus on OGMP 2.0. Map, prioritize, and maintain a working overview of key stakeholders across the industry, investor, government, NGO, and technical expert landscape. Outreach to oil and gas companies and help build the recruitment pipeline for OGMP 2.0 participation. Engage with investors and financial institutions on methane transparency, stewardship Prepare and deliver webinars, briefings, workshops, presentations, and outreach activities. Draft and refine stakeholder-facing materials, including briefing notes, slide inputs, speaking points, FAQs, and external communication inputs. Track stakeholder feedback, risks, opportunities, and market developments relevant to OGMP 2.0. Support collaboration with external partners, including industry, investors, governments, scientific institutions, NGOs, and technical experts. Provide strategic advice to the OGMP 2.0 team on engagement sequencing, stakeholder positioning, and market opportunities. Support other IMEO engagement and communications tasks as required. The consultant will report to ​Head of IMEO​.

Required: Masters or Equivalent in energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, international relations or related field. A first university degree in combination with 10 years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree Minimum 8 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, market development, partnership building or industry experience in climate, energy, extractives, heavy industry, finance, or related sectors. Strong understanding of the oil and gas sector, methane, industrial decarbonisation, and/or investor sectors Track record of engaging companies, investors, governments, industry associations, NGOs, or international organizations Strong engagement expertise with an existing network of stakeholders

Fluency in oral and written English. English is the working language of UNEP's IMEO. Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.

EXPECTED OUTPUTS: Develop and deliver a stakeholder mapping and prioritization for key OGMP 2.0 markets (including but not limited to US, India, Middle East, Central Asia, Latin America). Produce sector-specific engagement and supply-chain awareness outputs (e.g. reports, presentations, company stories or similar materials). Contribute to investor engagement and stewardship-related products, such as briefings, advisory notes, action plans, etc. Produce promotional materials for OGMP 2.0 and related methane transparency objectives. Manage the mentoring programme and event plan for technical experience sharing sessions Develop and deliver user needs assessment and improvement plans for digital products in collaboration with data and development teams. Develop and deliver webinars, briefings, meetings, and presentations for outreach activities. Provide OGMP 2.0-related insights for IMEO communications and events. Support the implementation of the IMEO Methane Training Series in partnership with the Government Relations team.
