Purpose of the Role
Provide protection case management for individuals experiencing or at risk of violence, coercion, or other protection concerns. Coordinate referrals and individual protection assistance while supporting safe and quality case management practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and assess cases, obtain informed consent, develop case and safety plans, and provide appropriate follow-up and referrals.
- Maintain confidential case records and escalate urgent or complex cases to the designated supervisor.
- Maintain referral pathways and coordinate safe, consent-based referrals and case transfers.
- Assess and facilitate Individual Protection Assistance (IPA), including cash assistance where approved, in line with identified protection risks and approved procedures.
- Coach and support General Protection Assistants and contribute to case quality and supervision.
- Report anonymized protection trends and service gaps while maintaining confidentiality.
- Follow DRC safeguarding, PSEA, confidentiality, and Code of Conduct requirements.
- Maintain clear separation between assessment, approval, and payment responsibilities.
Experience and Technical Competencies
- Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field; relevant diploma with substantial experience may be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant humanitarian protection experience, including case management or supervised casework.
- Practical knowledge of informed consent, risk assessment, safety planning, confidentiality, referrals, and case closure.
- Experience supporting diverse populations in displacement or conflict-affected settings.
- Experience with IPA or cash-for-protection is an advantage.
- Ability to coach assistants, maintain accurate records, coordinate services, and identify cases requiring specialist support.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations under approved security arrangements.
