About the Country/Multi-Country Office
From Geneva, UNOPS facilitates the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), working with governments, other United Nations (UN) agencies and partners by providing quality servces, integrated solutions and management support through strategic, cost-effective and results-oriented approches. This includes supporting platforms and hosting high-profile, flagship initiatives and funds focusing on health, nutrition, water and sanitation, sustainable cities, environment, energy, climate and trade. UNOPS is a recognized resource for the UN system in Geneva – from fund management and oversight and advisory services, to providing hosting solutions to a range of global initiatives, as well as operational support to partner organizations.
Job Specific Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organisations. With over 6,000 personnel spread across 80 countries, UNOPS offers its partners the logistical, technical and management knowledge they need, where they need it. By implementing around 1,000 projects for our partners at any given time, UNOPS makes significant contributions to results on the ground, often in the most challenging environments.
Role Purpose
The ICT Associate leads the design, development, and maintenance of scalable open-source enterprise web applications, ensuring optimal performance, usability, and seamless system integrations across organizational projects.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Under the direct supervision of the ICT Analyst - ICT Project Manager, the ICT Associate will be
responsible for:
- Validates functional requirements integration.
- Leads on the definition, design and development of enterprise applications using Open Source technologies. Knowledge of Drupal is desired.
- Actively contributes ideas and approaches during design sessions with other developers.
- Contributes to tracking emerging technologies and solutions for improvements.
- Leads in the implementation of web applications ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and usability of systems by assisting in adhering to established and evolving architectural standards.
- Leads on adapting mock-up themes or design of new ones with other developers and/or clients.
- Supports the migration of existing sites and applications.
- Has ample knowledge of manual and automated testing techniques to ensure the proper performance of deliverable functionalities, providing test cases and avoiding regressions
- Supports in the application deployment and maintenance of the infrastructure
- Supports in the development of innovative concepts that could be implemented in addition to, or as a replacement of, existing solutions
- Supports the creation of user and project documentation
- Contributes to the tracking and reporting times and efforts invested on the assigned tasks.
- Knowledge on Atlassian products is highly desirable (Jira, Confluence).
- Performs other ICT related duties as required.
The incumbent will be expected to:
- Ensure timely delivery of project products and services,
- Lead on the development and maintenance of enterprise applications,
- Actively participate in the management of the unit and support business development,
- Establish solid working relationships with the board, clients and key stakeholders.

Education Requirements
Required:
- Secondary education and diploma in Information technology, computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a related field are required.
- A university degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, engineering or related fields is an asset and may substitute some years of experience.
Experience Requirements
Required:
Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in open source information and communications technology is required.
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in Code Writing with HTML, CSS, JS, PHP.
Desired:
Experience in Drupal development is desired.
Experience in Wordpress development is desired.
Experience in LAMP stack is desired.
