Job Purpose

The Fundraising Coordinator plays a central role in strengthening and diversifying the GICHD’s funding base through proactive and strategic fundraising. The position is responsible for identifying, cultivating and pursuing funding opportunities, with a particular focus on private donors, including philanthropic foundations, companies, corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and other private-sector actors, while also engaging with public and institutional donors. The role requires an entrepreneurial, results-oriented fundraiser who is comfortable engaging and communicating with diverse audiences, building relationships and actively creating opportunities. The Fundraising Coordinator combines donor intelligence, outreach and relationship development with the ability to help shape compelling ideas and funding propositions. The position works closely with technical and programme colleagues to translate GICHD priorities and expertise into attractive, donor-focused proposals and clear value propositions, while ensuring that donor requirements and compliance considerations are addressed throughout the fundraising and proposal development process.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

  1. Proactively identify, assess and pursue fundraising opportunities, in line with the GICHD’s multi-annual Fundraising Strategy, across private, philanthropic, corporate, public and institutional donor segments, with a strong focus on diversifying GICHD’s funding base and converting high-potential prospects into sustainable funding relationships.
  2. Build, cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective and existing donors and partners through targeted outreach, networking, meetings and relevant events, confidently representing GICHD and its value proposition to diverse external audiences.
  3. Implement and maintain donor mapping, prospect research and donor intelligence, monitoring philanthropic, corporate, CSR and institutional funding trends, priorities and opportunities and translating intelligence into concrete fundraising actions.
  4. Drive the development and management of a robust fundraising pipeline, including opportunity assessments, donor engagement strategies, contact and follow-up plans, and the systematic prioritization of high-potential prospects.
  5. Support the formulation and drafting of donor-focused ideas, concepts and proposals, working closely with programme and technical colleagues to shape compelling funding propositions that align GICHD priorities with donor interests and requirements.
  6. Prepare and coordinate prospective and renewed donor engagement and fundraising materials, including donor briefs, internal donor intelligence materials, pitch materials, tailored value propositions, expressions of interest and other materials that effectively communicate GICHD’s impact and partnership opportunities.
  7. Provide support on ensuring compliance with donor requirements, including reviewing funding conditions, supporting due diligence and risk assessments, maintaining relevant compliance tools and guidance, and helping teams integrate donor requirements into fundraising and proposal development processes.
  8. Support organisational learning and strategic fundraising development by identifying emerging funding trends, partnership opportunities and areas for improved fundraising practice, and contributing to the continual improvement of GICHD’s donor engagement and resource mobilisation approaches.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Advanced university degree in business administration, international relations, development studies, political science, communications, marketing or another relevant field.
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in fundraising, business development, resource mobilisation, strategic partnerships, donor relations or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of proactively identifying and developing funding opportunities and building relationships that contribute to new or expanded partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with private-sector actors, companies, foundations, philanthropic organisations or corporate CSR programmes; experience working within, or closely with, the private sector is a strong advantage.
  • Experience reviewing donor requirements, managing compliance considerations or supporting institutional due diligence.
  • Experience developing and drafting funding concepts, proposals, pitches or other partnership propositions.
  • Experience with CRM systems is desirable.
  • Experience with public and institutional donors and their funding mechanisms is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international organisation, non-profit, humanitarian, development or comparable environment is an advantage.

  • Excellent proposal writing and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of donor requirements, compliance and due diligence, with the ability to advise colleagues and integrate donor requirements into fundraising processes.
  • Excellent strategic planning, organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, synthesise information and drive a fundraising pipeline.
  • Strong digital and information-management skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant donor/pipeline management tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and cultures, leveraging colleagues’ expertise to develop compelling funding propositions and achieve organisational objectives.
  • Proactive, strategic and learning-oriented approach, with the ability to identify emerging funding trends, partnership opportunities and improvements to fundraising practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English, including the ability to produce content for external communication purposes; knowledge of French, German and/or another relevant language is an asset.

Salary Information

Please note that the salary level for this role is between CHF 106'881.- and

CHF 113'293.-yearly gross, subject to social security deductions and income tax.
