Overview of position

CTG is looking for a Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician to support and participate in the execution of its client projects in the Central African Republic (CAR), the design, the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of the client’s telecommunications infrastructure, including structured cabling, fiber optic networks, equipment room and communications facilities, and related infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable ICT services across mission locations.


Role objectives

Duties and Responsibilities

Design, install, maintain, and upgrade structured cabling and backend communications infrastructure.

Install, splice, terminate, test, certify, and troubleshoot fiber optic networks, including OTDR and optical loss testing.

Maintain fiber distribution systems, patch panels, telecommunications rooms, equipment racks, cable trays, UPS, grounding systems, and communications facilities.

Install, test, certify, and maintain Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A cabling systems.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, and service restoration activities.

Support infrastructure projects, office relocations, field deployments, and network expansion initiatives.

Maintain infrastructure documentation, including cable records, fiber maps, inventories, and test results.

Prepare technical, maintenance, and outage reports.

Provide technical support during emergencies and critical service disruptions.

Coordinate with telecommunications, network, radio, and systems teams to ensure integrated service delivery.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Project reporting

This role reports to the line manager

Key competencies

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Technical training, diploma, or certification in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Network Infrastructure, or a related field.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in telecommunications infrastructure, structured cabling, fiber optic systems, or related technical fields.

Required experience:

Fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.

Enterprise or campus cabling deployments.

Telecommunications support in remote or hardship environments.

Data centres, communications facilities, or multi-site infrastructure projects.

UN, peacekeeping, humanitarian, or international organizations.

Technical Skills

Fiber optic splicing, testing, certification, and OTDR operation.

Structured cabling installation and troubleshooting.

Knowledge of ANSI/TIA and ISO/IEC standards.

Telecommunications room and infrastructure management.

Use of cable testing and diagnostic tools.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and cabling schematics.

Knowledge of telecommunications safety procedures.

Desirable Certifications

FOA CFOT.

BICSI Installer/Technician.

CCNA.

CompTIA Network+.

Fluke Networks certification.


Team management

This role has no team management responsibility.
