In the Middle East Region, Malteser International (MI) is operating in the context of the humanitarian crisis in Syria since 2012 implementing emergency relief measures in Türkiye, Syria, and Lebanon and since 2014 in Iraq. MI’s programs cover needs mainly in the health sector and are mostly partner implemented. In the Holy Land, in the Holy Land, MI is coordinating the provision of primary health care services to affected communities.
For its support in the Holy Land, Malteser International is looking for a qualified Nutritionist - National Position with experience in providing nutrition assessment and treatment services, preferably in a primary healthcare or humanitarian setting.
As a Nutritionist, you will provide nutritional screening, assessment, and counseling services to patients, with a focus on children, pregnant and lactating women. You will manage cases of acute malnutrition, develop individualized nutrition care plans, monitor patient progress, provide dietary counseling and nutrition education, and maintain accurate clinical documentation while coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
Your responsibilities:
- Conduct nutritional screening and assessment of children, pregnant and lactating women using anthropometric measures (weight, height/length, BMI, MUAC) and classify nutritional status according to WHO and national protocols.
- Manage cases of moderate and severe acute malnutrition (MAM/SAM): develop care plans, prescribe and monitor therapeutic and supplementary feeding, and track treatment response.
- Identify patients with complications or urgent needs and refer them through established pathways, with documented follow-up.
- Provide individualized dietary counseling and medical nutrition therapy for chronic diseases, anemia and micronutrient deficiencies, with culturally appropriate meal plans based on available household resources.
- Deliver individual and group nutrition education and community awareness sessions on healthy eating, food safety and disease prevention.
- Work with the multidisciplinary PHC team (pediatric, nursing, outreach) to integrate growth monitoring and nutritional support into routine care.
- Maintain accurate, confidential patient records, submit timely nutrition surveillance data and MEAL reports, and comply with infection control, safeguarding and patient dignity standards.
Your profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, Dietetics or Food Science.
- Minimum 2 years of professional clinical experience as a nutritionist, preferably in primary healthcare clinics or humanitarian settings.
- Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for chronic diseases and micronutrient deficiencies.
- Strong communication, counseling and active listening skills, with the ability to deliver nutrition education to individuals and groups.
- Strong documentation, data collection and reporting skills, with a commitment to patient confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Fluency in Arabic (written and spoken) is required; English is preferred.
