The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

- Ensure that all CHAI vehicles are kept clean, safe, secure, and in good working condition always.
- Safely and responsibly transport staff members and materials to field and construction sites, meetings, trainings, workshops, and other official destinations as required.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles, including checking engine oil, coolant/water levels, battery condition, tyre pressure, brakes, lights, and other essential components.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks, recording all trips, destinations, mileage, fuel consumption, and other relevant information.
- Consolidate and submit vehicle log sheets and related records for all CHAI vehicles as required.
- Monitor vehicle fuel levels and ensure timely refuelling to support uninterrupted field operations.
- Complete fuel request forms accurately and ensure that all required approvals and signatures are obtained before collecting fuel cards from the Logistics Assistant.
- Report any vehicle defects, mechanical problems, or maintenance requirements promptly to the Logistics Assistant or relevant supervisor.
- Assist with the scheduling and coordination of routine vehicle servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Ensure that all assigned vehicles have valid documentation, including insurance, registration, roadworthiness certificates, and other required documents.
- Report all accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, or security-related concerns immediately to the Logistics Assistant/Supervisor and, where applicable, the Police.
- Comply with CHAI vehicle policies, road traffic regulations, security procedures, and safe-driving practices always.
- Exercise defensive driving techniques and maintain a high standard of professionalism when transporting staff and visitors.
- Ensure the safety and security of passengers, vehicles, equipment, and other organizational property during all official trips.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff movements, field activities, and other sensitive organizational information encountered during official duties.
- Collect and deliver official documents, correspondence, supplies, and other items as assigned.
- Pick up and deliver mail from the Post Office on a weekly basis.
- Collect invoices and other official organizational documents from health insurance companies, telecommunications providers, and other service providers on a monthly or as-needed basis.
- Assist with photocopying, scanning, filing, and distribution of documents as assigned by different programmes and departments.
- Assist with the movement, loading, and unloading of office supplies, equipment, and programme materials, ensuring that items are handled safely and securely.
- Assist staff with logistics-related tasks during meetings, workshops, trainings, field visits, and other organizational activities.
- Maintain proper records of vehicle-related documents, fuel usage, servicing, repairs, and other assigned logistical activities.
- Immediately report any loss, theft, damage, or misuse of CHAI property to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and service-oriented relationship with staff, partners, government officials, service providers, and other stakeholders.
- Be flexible and available to work outside normal working hours when required for official assignments, field activities, or emergencies.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor/Line Manager.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience in driving, transport, logistics, or a similar functional area, preferably with International Organisations
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent qualification.
- Possession of a valid Malawi Driving Licence with the appropriate class/category.
- Possession of a Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Basic knowledge of first aid techniques.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and the ability to identify common vehicle faults and maintenance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in driving and maintaining 4×4 vehicles, preferably in challenging field and rural environments.
- Good knowledge of Malawi roads, major cities, districts, and rural areas.
- Good understanding of road safety regulations and safe-driving practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel records, mileage records, and other transport-related documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and demonstrate good judgment and initiative.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, and knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- High level of integrity, reliability, trustworthiness, commitment, and professionalism.
- Physically fit and able to undertake frequent field travel and work in challenging conditions.
- Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or public holidays when required by operational needs.
- Must demonstrate a devoted, hardworking, responsible, self-motivated, and service-oriented attitude.
