JOB TITLE: Communications Officer (Graphic Design)
TYPE OF CONTRACT: National Consultant/Special Service Agreement
UNIT/DIVISION: Programme Unit (Nutrition)
DUTY STATION (City, Country): Freetown, Sierra Leone
REPORTING & SUPERVISION: The Individual will work under the overall supervision of World Food Programme, Joint UNN project, Directorate of Food and Nutrition and Nutrition Cluster Technical/MIYCAN team
DURATION: 60 Days
Background
Adequate complementary feeding is essential for the growth, development and nutritional well-being of children aged 6-23 months. The Sierra Leone National Complementary Food Recipe Booklet for children 6- 23 months was developed to provide mothers/caregivers with guidance on preparing diverse, nutritious dense, safe, and age-appropriate complementary foods using locally available foods/ingredients.
However, many caregivers, particularly those in rural and underserved communities, have low literacy levels, limiting their ability to effectively use text-heavy materials. To improve accessibility and utilization of the recipes for impactful results, there is a need to simplify the existing recipe booklet into a user-friendly pictorial guide with clear, step-by-step illustrations that demonstrate safe food preparation practices and recipe preparation processes.
The simplified booklet will be validated by the Nutrition Cluster Technical /Maternal Infant and Young Child and Adolescent Nutrition (MIYCAN) team led by MoH- Nutrition and Food Directorate (DFN) and subsequently printed and disseminated to Mother Support Groups (MSGs), Community Health Workers (CHW) and nutrition partners implementing community-based nutrition activities across the country.
To achieve this, WFP in collaboration with MoH-DFN seeks to engage a qualified individual to transform the existing National Complementary Food Recipe Booklet into a simple, practical, and user-friendly step-by- step pictorial guide that can be easily understood and used by mothers/caregivers, regardless of literacy level, thereby promoting improved complementary feeding practices and child nutrition outcomes.
