If so, the British Red Cross is looking for a Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Adviser to join our existing Technical and Advisory department based in London.

Working closely with National Society partners across Africa and Asia, the International Federation and the International Committee of the Red Cross, the British Red Cross supports a wide portfolio of food security and livelihoods activities that contribute to resilience and risk reduction and help restart livelihoods following a disaster.

As FSL Advisor you will lead in the development and delivery of food security and livelihood programmes that incorporate appropriate and innovative cash based interventions. You will work closely with colleagues across sectors to achieve more integrated and relevant assistance that recognises the diversity of those assisted and promotes more effective resilience.

In this role you will apply your existing and newly acquired skills and experience to deliver the following responsibilities:

  • Providing technical guidance and best practice at all stages of programme and project development, from conceptualisation to final evaluations, collaborating closely with country teams, other advisors in health, WASH and disaster risk reduction and the wider development and humanitarian community;

  • Building the knowledge and capacity of National Societies in livelihoods and food security, contributing to both improved programme quality and their overall organisational development as leading national humanitarian organisations;

  • Supporting the wider use of cash and market based interventions by our partner National Societies to increase the relevance and impact of FSL interventions delivered;

  • Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders to increase knowledge and integrate livelihoods and food security best practice throughout all programming;

  • Develop and expand the capacity of the British Red Cross to support cash and market based interventions;

  • Building organisational partnerships and both organisational and individual capacity;

The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification in FSL or related subject such as agriculture, natural resource management, rural development, business development. Relevant work experience will include; developing and managing FSL programmes overseas in a development and humanitarian context; experience designing and managing cash based interventions; building organisational capacity and collaborative partnerships and experience providing distance support and promoting ways of working to field based colleagues.
