The Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships (DCS) is further harmonizing its globally recognized brand. As part of this initiative, the DCS is implementing a unified look and feel for all UNFPA websites, including those of country and regional offices.
The Online Communications Officer is responsible for the project management and support of UNFPA’s 122 country-office websites and the six regional platforms.
The consultant will report to the Website Analyst under the overall supervision of the Website Manager. The Online Communications Officer will work closely with the Regional Communications Advisers and UNFPA Communications Focal Points worldwide. The Online Communications Officer serves as interlocutor between UNFPA communications focal points, Regional Communications Advisors and the development team.
The Online Communications Officer must be committed to UNFPA’s values and guiding principles and be able to work on a team. The incumbent will have great attention to detail and will be experienced and motivated to support the alignment of all Country Offices websites.
Essential Functions:
- Assure project management of UNFPA country office websites worldwide
- Liaise with Country Office focal points to identify new requirements and needs
- Evaluate and test new website functionalities and match with user requirements to ensure consistent product quality
- Monitor and review Country Office websites to ensure their adherence to the UNFPA Communications Strategy, Web Policy and Migration Toolkit
- Scan new content published on UNFPA Country Offices to ensure quality and consistency with Web Writing Guidelines and the UN Editorial Manual
- Manage and communicate with developers to identify and correct system malfunctions
- Identify training needs and organize online training sessions for communications focal points
- Frequently update and optimize user guides
- Carry out any duties assigned by the Chief of the Media and Communications Branch

Requirements:
- Strong understanding of HTML, Photoshop and Content Management Systems
- Understanding of what constitutes good storytelling and writing for the web
- Experience working with development teams
- Proven service orientation with attention to detail
- Advanced University degree in Communications, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Journalism, Business Administration, Management Information Systems or similar field
- Preferred two years of relevant professional experience in project management, web support, communications or quality assurance
- Understanding of the principles of web development
- Knowledge of design and web standards
- Understanding of social media platforms
- Familiarity with international development issues
- Fluency in English, knowledge of another UN language preferably French or Spanish is an asset
