Fundraising Communication Officer (Product Development)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

In 2011 UNHCR's Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) formed a Fundraising Communication unit. The purpose of this team is to ensure UNHCR's Private Sector Fundraising offices globally have the content, tools, resources and best practice communication to run an effective fundraising programme that enables Individual Giving (IG) and Leadership Giving (LG) teams to deliver increased resources to UNHCR's budget.

This position is a global role that sits within PSFR's Fundraising Communication team.  The post-holder is responsible for identifying stories, gathering content and producing fundraising communication in multimedia formats for global use across the PSFR network. 

A core area of responsibility for this position is to identify and gather multimedia content (text, audio, still images, video) using market and audience insight about Individual and Leadership giving audiences in order to help engage and retain donors and build a lasting connection with UNHCR's work. 

As a member of the PSFR team, this position will be responsible for helping to progressively increase income to UNHCR from the private sector through the development of stronger fundraising communications both for Individual Giving programmes and Leadership Giving programmes.

FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT

Accountability

- Donors, Individual and Leadership giving audiences are engaged through research and multimedia content to build a lasting connection with UNHCR's work. 

Responsibility

- Produce communication material for Individual Giving programs including donor acquisition, retention and development.
- Produce communication material that serves to demonstrate the impact of donor contributions to UNHCR programmes.   
- Produce multi-channel toolkits for with materials for donors, journalists and corporate audiences.
- Undertake field missions to gather multimedia content working to a clear brief from internal stakeholders and partners.
- Commission and brief videographers and photographers for fundraising projects.
- Manage editorial content plan for regular fundraising communication bulletins to PSFR markets.
- Ensure effective archiving and cataloguing of PSFR multimedia content for wider organizational use.
- Support effective briefing of creative agencies.
- Provide proof reading and editing support for global PSFR materials.
- Undertake field missions to gather multimedia content working to a clear brief from internal stakeholders and partners.

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. 

- University degree in Communication, Marketing or a related field.
- A minimum of eight years' (6 years with Advanced University degree) experience in Marketing or Fundraising for not for profits including international experience. Strong knowledge of Individual Giving fundraising techniques required.
- Technological literacy and ability to use a wide range of web related applications.
- Fluency in English. Excellent written and editorial skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with international team members.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

- Ability to oversee creative project delivery.
- Experience planning, gathering and producing multimedia content as part of a donor acquisition and retention strategy.
- Experience applying writing styles and techniques that are effective in engaging donors and supporters. 
- Experience sourcing content in line with briefs from internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience identifying stories of relevance for diverse markets and audiences.
- Experience working as part of a broader content gathering team.
- Experience improving processes and identifying new technology requirements.
- Experience managing external consultants and contractors.
