PSP Officer (Supporter Development)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

In 2016 UNHCR¿s Private Sector Partnership (PSP) unit recorded a total income of USD 330 million, including a large portion of un-earmarked funds, representing over eight per cent of UNHCR's total budget.  Contributions received through Individual Giving represented 66 per cent of PSP total income.

The increased engagement of donors is at the heart of UNHCR's private sector partnership strategy.  In 2016, over 1.7 million individuals contributed USD220 million to UNHCR's work.

The development of effective fundraising strategies and related products and toolkits, with a focus on donor development and loyalty, is essential to support the objectives of Individual Giving operational teams in acquiring and cultivating donors to maximise lifetime value and return on investment.

This position is a global role that sits within PSP's Strategy and Marketing section based in Copenhagen, Denmark and works in close collaboration with the Regional Managers.  The post-holder draws on market analysis and audience insight to develop specialised fundraising communication strategies and products, aimed at individual donors, for use across existing PSP markets and digital hubs.

FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT

Accountability
- UNHCR acquires and retains individual donors across all giving levels with a lasting connection with UNHCR in order to maximize lifetime value and return on investment.

Responsibility
- Develop fundraising strategies and products for diverse fundraising National Partners and Branch Offices, which serve to retain loyal individual donors, moving them through a donor journey that builds a lasting connection with UNHCR.  Examples include 1st year retention, cash donor development, regular giving products, middle donors and legacy marketing. 
- Develop strategies and programs to convert supporter leads into donors.
- Increase donor understanding through research and analysis creating segmentation strategies for Individual Giving.
- Provide Individual Giving advice to global campaigns, emergency campaigns, digital fundraising and initiatives by representing the needs of individual donors. 
- Work with the Senior PSP Officer, Individual Giving to review annual plans and budgets submitted by National Partners and Branch Offices, in the context of donor development. 
- Facilitate best practice through training, skill-shares and work-shops to support donor development.  Provide strategic and tactical support to the National Partners and Branch Offices as required.
- Act as day-to-day focal point for fundraising and communication agencies in relation to Individual Giving.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Authority
- Work with the National Partners and Branch Offices is undertaken in close collaboration with the Regional Managers.  Develop fundraising strategies that retain donors and build a lasting connection to UNHCR.  Project manage the development of fundraising products and assets that will resonate across multiple PSP markets.
- Project manage the development of global fundraising assets.
- Provide expert and best practice guidance on techniques to engage individual donors in fundraising initiatives.

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- University degree in Marketing or Fundraising.
- A minimum of 8 years' experience of working in fundraising using direct marketing techniques for not for profits, including international experience.
- Expertise in how to maximise individual donor lifetime value through the implementation and refinement of a donor communications cycle.  Knowledge of digital, mail, telemarketing and mobile techniques. 
- Understanding and use of segmentation models, ask strategies and test strategies to inform donor development. 
- Proven expertise and up-to-date knowledge in developing and implementing Individual Giving plans for annual income growth as well as strategic planning. 
- Experience of managing agencies including agency procurement, the drafting and instructions on briefs, building partnerships with, and management of day-to-day operations. 
- Experience of developing fundraising creative/materials either in direct marketing in a not-for-profit or as a senior account manager in a direct marketing agency. 
- Experience of managing the production of fundraising materials from creative and design to production, print and delivery. 
- Knowledge of excellent donor care.
- Fluency in English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
- Experience of using Salesforce database, Mustard CMS and WorldPay. 
- Experience of co-ordinating projects and programs across a number of markets and cultures. 
- Strong writing skills and technological literacy and ability to use a wide range of digital applications.
