Under the general guidance of the Chief of Digital Strategy, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, planning, formulating, executing, monitoring and evaluating digital engagement and communication initiatives related to immunization, child health and child survival. Digital engagement will be across a range of platforms and media for UNICEF`s key audiences, with the objective of promoting awareness, understanding, support and respect for children’s and women’s rights, and support for UNICEF's mission, priorities and programmes.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general guidance of the Chief of Digital Strategy, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, planning, formulating, executing, monitoring and evaluating digital engagement and communication initiatives related to immunization, child health and child survival. Digital engagement will be across a range of platforms and media for UNICEF`s key audiences, with the objective of promoting awareness, understanding, support and respect for children's and women's rights, and support for UNICEF's mission, priorities and programmes. 

  1. Lead the conceptualization, design, planning, execution and evaluation of digital communication strategies and plans regarding UNICEF activities on immunization and child survival across all digital platforms and mediums (Social, Web, Multimedia).
  2. Provide research and content for the DOC communication platforms and channels and act as the DOC focal point for communication around immunization and child survival, particularly in terms of being the bridge between DOC and Programme Division (PD) on these issues.
  3. Support and advise regional and country offices and Natcoms on digital engagement initiatives and engage them in the formulation of projects in the area of immunization and child survival.
  4. Design and implement initiatives across a range of digital and new media platforms that trigger and sustain engagement on Child Survival issues. Develop user-friendly key messages, briefing notes, social media assets, technical guidance on multimedia asset creation and requirements for website articulation of child survival activities.
  5. Manage ongoing activities and initiate new efforts to involve leading Child Survival community members, as well as key influencers, to more actively engage in UNICEF's digital work.
  6. Develop and manage the Child Survival digital communication strategy work plan. Work plan to include: environmental and stakeholder assessment; objectives; target audiences; key message development; digital platform and media mix; resources; specific actions, activities and products; monitoring and evaluation of impact; success and opportunity for improvement; ongoing refinement of the strategy.
  7. Provide technical support to ensure that a set of digital communication performance indicators is identified and adjusted as necessary, and these communication indicators are incorporated into the Annual Management Plan, Annual Work Plan, etc. Conduct timely and accurate monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure the communications objectives are met and the strategy is effective.
  8. Undertake lessons learned review of successful and unsuccessful digital communication experiences and share observations/findings with programme, country, regional and HQ communication colleagues so that best practices benefit UNICEF's communication work.
  9. Perform other child survival digital communication duties at the P3 level as required, as well as other communication officer duties as assigned by the Supervisor


To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master's) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a directly related field(s). *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with (2) two additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of (5) five years of progressive, relevant professional work experience in communication, digital marketing, broadcast, and/or new media is required.
  • Prior demonstrated professional experience in the field of journalism, communications, external relations, public affairs, public relations, marketing or corporate communications is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of (3) three years of direct experience managing digital communication channels (web and social media channels) in combination of (2) two years International and/or international field experience will be an asset.
  • Prior knowledge of United Nations or other international aid or NGOs highly desirable. 
  • Prior good understanding of world affairs, current events and development issues is desirable.
  • Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset.

This position is classified as "rotational" which means the incumbent is expected to rotate to another duty station upon completion of their tour of duty.
