Org. Setting and Reporting

The internship in the Conduct and Discipline Unit of DFS is for a minimum of two months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Overall tasks pertain to the zero tolerance policy on sexual exploitation and abuse, and include, but are not limited to:
- reviewing and compiling best practices of Member States in enforcing the zero tolerance policy;
- assisting with research and tracking of implementation of the programme of action on sexual exploitation and abuse; and
- updates to data, contributing inputs to briefing notes; assisting with CDU and DFS work plans, research, drafting as needed on programme and policy issues.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
•Be computer literate in standard software applications;
•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
•Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their UN professional history profile (PHP).

Languages

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
