We are looking for a highly motivated and compassionate
candidate who is interested in humanitarian work and being part of the DRC
family.
Who are we?
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection
agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to
displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and
human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional
approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon,
Syria, Turkey and Iraq.
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today
operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several
South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and
the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors
including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods,
Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and
Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450-national staff and
45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated
with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations.
About the job:
The Livelihoods Field Assistant is responsible for conducting a range of
livelihoods activities, including information provision and regular participatory
livelihood assessments of potential/selected beneficiaries. The post holder
works in close cooperation and coordination with other team members and reports
directly to the Project Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor and assess all the livelihoods activities, like life skills training, cash for work, vocational training and business grants using as much as possible an age, gender and diversity approach, in order to fully understand community needs and priorities.
- Help in the identification of public community projects that enhance the social cohesion between different people.
- Enhance and facilitate discussion on main community concerns and problems within the displaced and the host communities.
- Identify and assess the needs of various communities and suggest possible solutions in coordination with Project Officer.
- Develop monthly visit plans on assessing, re-assessing and following up community activities in coordination with Project Officer.
- Ensure dissemination of clear and reliable information on livelihoods service provision and other pre-selected key topics.
- Conduct information sessions, record feedback (comments, suggestions) and report results back to Project Officer.
- Submit weekly and monthly activity plans, reports and recommendations for assessed persons and identified beneficiaries to the Project Officer.
- Maintain constructive relationships with municipalities, other local government institutions, local NGO partners and other international organizations in coordination with the other team members
- Contribute to capacity building of local organizations, community groups, and stakeholders
- Identify vulnerable beneficiaries during the field work who might need protection assistance and refer them according to the referrals procedures to the project officer
Other:
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager;
- Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq programme Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
- Conduct duties in strict accordance with DRC Code of Conduct and the principle of confidentiality.
- Ensure transparency and DRC’s positive regard and reputation within communities.
- This position requires travel to community projects between different locations in Diyala.
About you:
To
be successful in this role you must have:
- Relevant professional experience of not less than 2 (two) years;
- Familiarity/prior experience with DRC and its persons of concern (including internally displaced persons and refugees-returnees) would be a distinct advantage;
- Familiarity with digital data collection
- Familiarity/prior experience with NGO sector would be an advantage
- Good spoken and written English/Arabic and relevant computer skills.
- Full respect for client/organization confidentiality.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs and other vulnerability.
- Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.

Required qualifications:
- University degree in social sciences, psychology or other relevant field, or undergraduate degree with demonstrated strong experience;
- Report writing skills.
- Experience of work in the UN or NGO or voluntary sector is preferred but not essential.

We offer:
DRC will offer the successful
applicant a 6 months’ contract, renewable dependent on both funding and
performance. You must be available to start work from 1 July 2017 and be willing and able to work in Diyala.
