Purpose of the Position

This position reports to the communication specialist with responsibility for general assistance and support of the communications department, according to the established norms and procedures.

The role of this post is to provide support services on social media strategies, brand and image, traditional media, events and projects for programmatic and fundraising purposes; plus administrative matters such as following up budget and maintenance of archives.

The major end result to be accomplished by the post will be engaging audiences with UNICEF´s programmatic objectives and contributing to raising global RR and OR.

Within the new County Office program framework and considering global trends, it is expected that the incumbent prioritizes tasks and organizes agreed tasks based on general direction and guidance from the supervisor.

Key Expected Results

This post will contribute with the organizations goals as it will make recommendations on appropriate information and communication materials for use in traditional and social media, and other advocacy and communication activities, as well as for fundraising purposes; and makes recommendations on the appropriateness, quality and dissemination of digital, printed and audio-visual materials.  These recommendations contribute to the effectiveness of the communication strategy and plan.

Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks

  1. Follows up on annual work plan budget and all SAP actions subscribed to the position. Maintains archives of all communications projects with rigorous detailed organization of documentation and budget invested.
  2. Assist in the development, maintain and update of the country social media strategy and associated work plan which includes analysis and record of the periodic digital results (web, social networks, donation website and any additional micro-website developed during the year, such as unicef10k.com). Ensure on-going assessment of social media trends and practices and their application to the evolving strategy. The result of the analysis should be a recommendation to the improvement and refining of the strategy and/or its tactics.
  3. Assist in keeping record and analysis of news clipping sent to UNICEF staff, by external news monitoring/clipping provider. Maintains handy by topic and date, all news releases approved and distributed.Once every two months develops an executive brief about trends on children news published in traditional media and social media in the country and about other social oriented organizations.
  4. Maintain close attention to advances on the programmatic and PFP results in order to make sure that the communications strategy is coherent with the Country Program priorities and any specific situation that might arrive.
  5. Support in Internal Communication actions.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education:

Secondary education degree required. University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Web design as an asset; or equivalent professional work experience in the communication area.

Experience:

Six (6) years of practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, interactive digital media and/or publicity.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English is required.

Excellent communication and writing skills in Spanish is required.
