Introduction
The Danish Refugee Council
(DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded
in 1956, that works in 40 countries around the world.
DRC’s mandate is driven by three global strategic
objectives within the DRC Assistance Framework: Saving lives and alleviation of
immediate suffering among people affected by conflict, Safeguarding,
restoration and development of livelihoods, and, Institutional and
organisational change that contributes to protection of people’s rights and
peaceful handling of conflict.
Background
DRC has been
operating in Greece since December 2015, providing support to the Greek
Ministry of Migration Policy in ensuring dignified reception conditions for
refugees and migrants arriving on Lesvos island. In March 2016, DRC expanded
its operations in response to the changing context and the build-up of refugee
population on mainland Greece.
Purpose
Under the
supervision of the Site Operations Officer, the plumber has responsibility for
supporting the development and implementation of all DRC plumbing care and
maintenance activities in the two sites in DRC’s area of responsibility, and
providing liaison with local authorities and other humanitarian actors to
ensure a meaningful and coordinated intervention. The SMS Officer will ensure a
high quality, integrated approach to site management support, including
oversight of site operations, shelter interventions, NFI and food
distributions, community mobilization and general protection activities.
Duties
and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
will include, but not necessarily be limited, to the following:
- Participate in maintenance activities, including small repairs and construction works if/as applicable
- In charge of the use, the maintenance of all tools and the tool kit
- Any other tasks assigned by the Site Operations Officer to support DRC’s emergency response
- Control and maintenance of water supply and sewerage network
- Checking water adequacy, possible leaks,
- Inspection and repair of plumbing, toilets, showers, solar etc
- Recognize damages and update Site Operations Officer
- Other work such as piping maintenance, using joints, clamps, bolts, cement, plastic solvents, caulking or welding, hard welding and generally the tools and components required for normal plumbing work.
- Locating and replacing problem fragments, pipelines, etc.
- Update for interventions requiring specialized tools and machinery or beyond the scope for intervention
- Tracking of the cesspool system and its subcontractor
- Keep records of work and produce detailed job report
Required Qualifications
- The plumber must be certified under the Greek laws and should be able to provide a copy of his professional license to DRC.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience
- Previous working experience with local or international NGOs will be considered as a strong advantage
- High professional ethics
- Fluency in English and Arabic is an advantage

activity during the DRC contract period without prior authorization.
Employee should not engage in any activity that
could harm DRC or the implementation of any project during the DRC contract
period.
Employee should not give interviews to the media or
publish project-related photos or other material without prior authorization.
Employee shall return all
borrowed equipment for the project to DRC after the end of the contract period
or upon request.
